saw a 2008 STi in person on Friday. my personal opinion of the redesign has not changed. :(

that new Volvo hatchback looked much better. saddly, with the T5, it was the same price as the STi but is FWD.

oh, and forgot to add that the STI insurance is ridiculous (almost 3 times what I pay for my forester). That is all.

3 Times!! It is that sort of insanity which makes a WRX seem that much more appealing.

Get a 2008 WRX for $22,000 and change (there's a used over at Stohlman for $22,000 w/ 5k on it). do a STi drivetrain swap for about $4,000 (tranny, difs, etc.). Throw on your turbo, exhaust and other various mods with a tune for $2,000. Some wheels and sticky tires for another $1,000 and your still well under the $35,000 price for a new STi minus the crazy insurance hike.

You may save enough on insurance in 5 years to pay for all the performance modifications you threw on to the WRX.

Depends on your record ;) I pay $998.70, which considering that I'm not married, isn't a bad deal for a "300HP" sporty car.

Here is a great thread about the possibilities of the 08s.

I've said it before, once the aftermarket figures out how to massage the new rear suspension - the pre 08 stuff is going to look like the GC stuff - old school.

Hey, i still think the 04-05 peanut eye STi is probably one of the best looking cars Subaru has out, but I've begun to like mine a lot as well.

oh yeah, and as far as regarding pricing, I got my car for 32,300 before the usual stuff, 34xxx out the door. It was about $1200 under invoice pricing. Combined with 3.9 % @ 60months was a good deal for me.

Just out of curiosity, which packages did you get? BBS? NAV? etc?

At $34,xxx that puts it *right* at the cost of the other STis when they were new. Pretty sure my 05 STiwas close to that new, give or take a grand or so.

If they were half the price, I'd sell my toaster and get one.

Given that they aren't... I'll just have to say congrats on the purchase. 8)
