The on-again, off-again Camaro Z28 is apparently on again if these spy photos are any indication of Chevrolet’s future plans for its pony car. Likely being readied for a launch perhaps as early as next year, the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 is seen here taking a few hot laps in rainy conditions.
While the nose of the prototype sports camouflage, the tell-tale power dome on the hood is the tip off that this is a very special Camaro. The extra space afforded by the new hood is needed to accommodate a version of GM’s LSA supercharged 6.2-liter V-8, which currently sees duty in the Cadillac CTS-V to the tune of 556 bhp and 551 lb.-ft. of torque. Like the Corvette LS9 motor upon which it’s based, the supercharger and intercooler sit on top of the engine, which adds considerably to the height of the unit.
Expected to produce well in excess of 500 bhp, the Z28 is no doubt undergoing a development program to properly do battle with the recently introduced Ford Shelby GT500.

GM has officially unveiled the changes to the 2012 Chevy Camaro. For the 2012 model year the Camaro gets a more powerful V6 engine, a new performance suspension for SS coupes and interior improvements.
The 3.6L V6 now puts out 323 horsepower, which is 11 more horsepower than the 2011 engine. The new engine is 20 pounds lighter than the old engine and even though there is more power, the 2012 Camaro will still get 30 mpg on the highway.
A new FE4 suspension is being added for the SS coupe. The FE4 package includes retuned front and rear dampers, new solid front (23 mm) and rear (24 mm) stabilizer bars and 20-inch aluminum wheels with P245/45R20 front/P275/40R20 rear tires.

The car is question is also not a Z28, but a ZL1. I don't think we'll ever see a real Z28, which was a GM code package for a bare-bones camaro with race suspension, brakes, and engine.
