I am telling you that we just have to have a vinyl group buy and group install.

Doesn't do it for me on the GTR. Dunno why. Maybe its like redheads - some women look great as a redhead, some don't.

I HATE to say this.... but I agree. Some cars just look better without the blacked out treatment... but that is very few and far between... this just happens to be one of those.

I couldn't disagree more if you were Glenn Beck.
the GTR isn't a good looking car, it's a purposeful looking car. Flat black just reinforces that for me.
I wish I had more hands so I could give this wrap 4 thumbs up. :pimp:

flat black rocks for one reason : LIDAR doesn't return

I know this first hand, I scanned cars with SICK sensors and I can tell you for a fact that black is damn near invisible.

The only returns you get are from inside the cab (if not black) and from the wheels (if not black) and the lights (reflectors return very strongly)

If you have a black interior, and you put absorber coating on your lights and tint them a bit, you're gonna be a real pain for laser.

P.S. colors generally follow the same rules in other EM bands. Black generally has weaker radar returns to boot. You can really shorten your detect range.

is that why you have a white car?!?! haha.

lol
I considered that, actually...
But white looks so nice on that body style.
And black looks pretty 'meh' on an e92.

I don't speed enough to worry about it.
And 3's don't draw that much attention from cops.

[blah blah rant delete]

Next car, maybe then I'll go back to gray/black.

I'm with this guy. Big time.

(though the lidar effect is pretty cool too)

Where can I get a black license palate?
You can be the biggest black body emitter on the road, but your plate is going to act as a homing beacon.
Depending on the type of instrument, the LE equipment have between a 4 and 6 degree spread. You have to be right up on them to let them miss your plate and lights.

Register your car in a state without front plate requirements. chances are they won't have emissions tests, safety inspections or window tint regs either.
I've often thought about "selling" my car to my dad in Kentucky...

The tinted windshield really completes the look.

It's. Just. So... Menacing.

I really like it.

For those that don't like matte black, try matte white

there was a matte white Aston Martin at the Paris Auto Show last year (or the year before) and it was H.O.T.
someone posted it IIRC.

I thought about matte white (matt white, LOL - ok I enjoyed that...).

But gloss white is hard enough to keep looking clean.

Then take out some of the smoothness, and I've got the feeling more grit will take.

It will still feel like vinyl to touch. Its like printing different finishes on the same photo paper. So I don't think it would take to grit much more than any other form of vinyl.

White might be difficult to keep clean, but black is practically clean-proof. :ugh:

Did a little research, found a good company with lots of example work online. The closest install center is in NYC. The cost for a single color wrap for an Impreza is $3600 :!: They'll come to DC and do it for an additional $750.

Yup. Reason its popular with the GT-R owners is

A) The car comes in fewer colors than an AMG Mercedes (what shade of grey would you like, sir? )... but unlike a Merc, it is supposed to be an agressively styled... kinda conflicting messages on the paint scheme there, NiMoCo. So if you want variety... its vinyl time!

2) one of the biggest gripes about the GT-R is similar to the big gripes about early Imprezas in the US - the paint toughness is shit (ridiculous attempt at weight savings perhaps? :rolllaugh: ) . There is a permanent scuff from tossing a newspaper into the trash bin across garage and coming up short. :poke:

If Chuck Norris stares at his GT-R for more than 5 minutes straight, it will be sanded down to bare metal ... in a nuts hell, at least a ClearBra is recommended for those that like nice paint :ugh:

I am liking that matte white, too...I really wonder how that does with dirt, though.

I find that a thin film of dirt/pollen/salt gives every car a very thin matte white finish. I think so long as you're not braking hard and getting brake dust all over it...

Mud cakes on brown sure, but hose it off and I think you'd be hard-pressed to tell its as dirty as a non-white/silver/grey car.
