Running the Cisco ASA OS in a VM

Post by Sabre »

Haven't tried it yet, but might later tonight. Interesting way to try out changes before going live with them!

Install
Live version -
When you get into the linux prompt, type /asa/bin/lina. For the serial pipe, in vmware for serial port settings chose “use named pipe”, “\\.\pipe\vmwaredebug”, “This end is client”, “The other end is application”.Then download “vmwaregateway.exe”, start it with vmwaregateway.exe /t, use putty to connect to localhost, port 567.
Now start virtual machine, press enter on boot, switch to previously started putty and type /asa/bin/lina.
If you want the image to work in real pc instead of vmware be sure you have PCNET, Intel/Pro 100 or Intel/Pro 1000 card.

Good choice putting $4,000 rims on your 1990 Honda Civic. That's like Betty White going out and getting her tits done.

lol, I'm not suggesting you do this for production, don't worry ;)

It does help if you're trying out configs.... or looking at the OS image...
