BABE 2006
No you hornballs, this is a Rally!!!!! I'm guessing they are going to change the place where it ends though (was New Orleans).
Full info here: http://www.baberally.com
The necessities:
We leave in May!
BigApple2BigEasy is a new event to the United States (we hope). It's very easy to join in, just get yourself the worst looking vehicle you can for $250 or less and enter the Rally.
This rally will be based around the same formula as our highly successful European rallies, Staples2Naples and Home2Rome. As I have many friends in the US, I've been under pressure put on a similar event in the center of the motoring world.
We were looking for an interesting route and a decent start and end locatoin. Well, New York seems like a good start and New Orleans is definitely my favorite party town.
The car...
Your car must cost less than $250. You can either look for the most comfortable cruiser around for that $250, or you can look for a car that's on its last leg and needs coaxing to New York, let alone New Orleans.
The key to having fun is to find a car that is safe, but is also utterly knackered. You will be pitching your mechanic skills in getting your heap of trash to the end. None of this cruise control air conditioned motorised sofa based cars - you want raw, edgy and uncomfortable.
If your car breaks down you have two choices: retire from the rally; or get the car disposed off and start hitch- hiking to the end!
The challenges...
Along the way you will be asked to participate in some challenges. These are simple challenges, they may include costume on one particular day, they may involve collecting things from particular places.
The challenges do not, however, involve doing anything dangerous or any sort of mechanical competition. This isn't a race, and no points will be given for arriving first, doing something fastest, etc. Safety is important at all times. Anyone caught displaying bad driving will be disqualified.
The Prize?
The Team that manages to acquire the most amounts of points over 4 days of hard driving will get $1500 in cash.
The second place team will win $350 and the third place team will win $150. However, you must make it to the end!
We are also giving away several trophies to Teams who we feel have earned it. These will be decided throughout 2006, however, the current list is:
Worse Bucket of Bolts
Team to Hitchhike the Farthest
Team Who Suffered The Most*
Most Creative Repair Job
If the response to this event is adequate, then we may well increase the prize money.
* Self inflicted or not - doesn't matter
The Charities?
We don't officially run the rally for charity, but you are certainly welcome to collect sponsorship and do the event for charity.
Many of the European teams use the events for charity and an impressive amount of money is raised each time.
Although the event is not run for charity, we may keep Team 01 back and auction it on Ebay and give some of the proceeds to charity. We have done this previously with S2N2005 and we may well do that again. You are, of course, welcome to suggest the charity. If we do this we will be looking for a charity that involves motoring and safety, but not the usual nut job safety charities that are run by loons.
Just because our cars don't look serious doesn't necessarily mean we aren't serious.

Aww man that sound like it could be cool but I got this crap to be doing this weekend. You know roommate leaving and all. I even found a 1996 Volvo 850 for 200 bucks. Ah well, maybe next year.

I haven't had it at all this morning... hopefully you and Zak caught it when I was switching it from the machines mail server to the external mailer. Shouldn't be a problem from here on
