Help me out here. Does that giant scoop in the front mean it has a radiator or is it just for looks? It would, of course, increase drag dramatically.

Not sure..... do these cars have transmissions (at least what we would consider a transmission?). If they do they could need air to cool that... but it wouldn't require a gaping maw up front'
Numbers being bandied about include 0–60 mph in less than 6 seconds.
:screwy: wow.... a blistering 6 seconds..... The electric vehicles I have been in have had incredible acceleration. Electric motors have LOADS of torque... USE IT! Yes I know cost is a factor but when I see a car that looks like that and costs $60k, I don't think: I could probably beat that with my Dodge Ram

What happens to your laptop when you are running it off of batteries? It gets a bit warm, don't it? Well, multiply that by eleventy billion for the Tesla and that is what you get. There was heat exchanger w/ fans in the original one as well.

The original specs called for a two phase transmission, but the manufacturer in England couldn't get them to meet promised specs, so they went to a direct single drive trans to be upgraded later. As you can see the, single phase is simple.

but it also requires a cooling fan.

That new one will be using a multi-phase trans to get those performance numbers, but those LiIon batteries can generate a huge amount of heat, and you gotta keep them cool or else they will make a real toxic CarB-Q.
