Cracked Windshield

Post by Zell_06 »

The other day I was on my way to work and hit a nasty pot hole. So nasty in fact that it cracked my windshield near the passenger side. It started small and is slowly growing. What a PITA. Anybody know where I can find a place to replace this for a good price?

I can't say I've had to repair or replace a windshield before so I can't give any advice from experience.

I would just try some of those advertised auto glass places like Royal Auto or Safelite. IIRC, they can come out to your place of business and do the repair in the parking lot. Makes it really convenient.

I think Libra Monkee has had to replace a windshield before (I think) so maybe he can chime in.

chuckenschlausen (libra monkee) had his replaced recently by a company that drove out to his location and did the job on the spot. seemed to be good work. shrug.

I had one replaced by insurance a couple years back. I was not impressed with the company (?SafeLite?), and very not impressed with the quality of the glass they used. After a couple years I have so many little tiny pock marks in the glass that its actually a pain to look through.

Make sure that they use manufacturer quality glass. Also, if you have heated glass (for the wipers, I know the FXT has it, and some of the Leg's do) make sure the replacement has it.

I went on http://www.89glass.com/ and replaced mine for just barely $300. They came out to the house and did it on a Friday morning when I was off. He was done in less than 2 hours. I would tell you to wait until you can get a warm day so the sealant can set up properly.

Safelite is fine (in fact, they're fixing my wife's Mazda today).

Make sure that they have the correct gasket before they show up to perform the repair. The generic gasket that they can use looks like shit.

Julian, you still need to take me out with the good turbo on your diesel power plant.
