Yokohama ES100 AVS tire nightmare

Post by Cereb Daithi »

So I'm rather.. well I'll be blunt. Pissed off. I duno if any of you remember, but about 4 months ago or so I got a set of Yokohama ES100s. Today I went to get my car inspected and guess what? He said if I left the tires on I'd fail. I was confused since when I glanced at the side-walls and outside tread before I left they seemed fine. What I didn't notice was the fact that the inside tread had worn completely down to the point of pure baldness. I had the car aligned every time I rotated the tires (which was only once. they only have about maybe 6000-7000 miles on them) at NTB. I knew these tires are a softer compound and I wouldn't be able to squeeze years out of them.. but this is awful quick to burn through tires. Furthermore, if it was on the outside of the tire I'd say that it was just from me being an asshat.. but all the wear is on the inside. So I'm going to go kick down the doors of NTB tomorrow and ask wtf is up.

Did you overinflate them?

nope. they were fine. just to doublecheck though I went out to the garage before typing this and checked them again. they're a little bit low but close enough to the correct pressure to make me think it wasn't from inflation

NTB does not do good alignments...and Camber killed them.

Toe was out .28 degrees on the rear. That explains why the one was chewed up like that.... the rest is still a mystery. But the manager at the NTB presented me with a normally $1000 package where I get 5 years of alignment on my vehicle and a new set of ES-100s at 50% off. So for $500 I'm getting all that. Seeing as how I'm putting new suspension on and new rims, i'd say it'll pay off down the road. Hell maybe I'll stop in every weekend and get an alignment.

I work with a former NTB employee at that specific center and he said that the guy that did my alignment the first time it went bad, was a lazy bastard that didn't tighten everything up. Apparently he takes short-cuts. So I'm still a bit jacked about that.

Regardless though, the situation is worked out. I probably could have gotten more if I had pressed, but I hate being a di*k to managers who are very polite and helpful, which he was.
