Posted by a buddy on another site:
1. Call 800-275-2273
2. Enter 70 when prompted, it might reject your first try, but try until it works.
3. When asked what product you need help with say "Itunes"
4. When asked which computer system you use, reply "windows" or "mac"
5. When asked if you work for a school reply "yes" or "no"
6. Talk to a live person.
Yay for not having to e-mail Itunes anymore!!!
I have never need to contact Itunes but if anyone does....

someone call them and ask why the latest version is such a piece of fermented cat shit. i went back to 6.0.5 until they release a version that doesn't use 100% of cpu resources at the end of every song, causing my machine to freeze up for 20 seconds. apparently it's a common issue with no known fix other than reverting back to a previous version.

I haven't had that issue, but there seem to be a lot more issues with 7 than any other release. maybe more than any other Apple release in the last few years. they're learning from M$...

Ben, I haven't had that problem... Nor have I had any problems with the latest release. I suppose it helps that I'm running it on a Mac, but I've only got a 1Ghz G4 with 1 gig of RAM. Minimum audio reqs are 500Mhz and 256Megs, minimum vid 1Ghz processor. I'm just saying, I hardly have a new computer.
The few times I used it on Windows, it did seem slower, but I wouldn't expect it to hang like that. What's your set-up and what are you encoding at?

it's not platform specific from what i've read. i also don't believe it's hardware specific. it's buggy software, and it's a known issue for some folks. nobody can find a common element in our machines, though. it only does this on the VERY LATEST version. previous versions of itunes 7 don't have this problem, although some of them have the dreaded sound issue.
for reference though, i'm running:
p4 2.7GHz
1GB pc2100 DDR SDRAM
256MB AGP video
encoding at 192 i believe... i'd have to check. but i've always set it to AT LEAST 192.

I can't remember having any problems with it that weren't related to my failing iPod.
AMD 3800+ x2 (2.0GHz)
2GB DDR
nVidia 256MB PCI Express
