Yeah, better speakers FTW!!!chicken n waffles wrote:i'm looking at that same sound card. my 7 year old sb live x-gamer is on its last leg.
nice rig. although i'd get better speakers to take advantage of the sound card if i were you. with that 2.1 setup, you'll be missing out and might as well save your $ by using the onboard sound.
It is okay, we understand. My work gives me a Dell discount, reimburses 20% of the cost up to $400 plus they don't bother w/ the rebates. So basically I can get a $2000 PC for $1000 after all is said and done.
Used this 3 years ago for my father for a laptop. I think the cycle is coming around again...hmm?
Chuck, we completely understand. Don't worry or think you have to explain yourself to us...we are all nerds here.

I haven't posted here yet. But now that my name's been mentioned I guess I'll chime in.sirwilliam wrote:Chuck, we completely understand. Don't worry or think you have to explain yourself to us...we are all nerds here.
If you're looking for speakers might I suggest the Logitech Z-5500? I have those connected to an Audigy 2 ZS card and the sound is really really really really REALLY great! Even with the aging card.

Looks like a great system. The only things that make me cringe are all the pre-installed crap that Dell shoves on you. Do you really need all that ISP software and free offers?
Also, I hate vendors that only give you an "application back-up" CD. Why can't they include an actual disc of the OS? Lame.

Supposedly it has a XP backup CD...
The speakers were chosen as a means to keep the price down. I realize that the sound card could use much nicer speakers and it eventually will. I did the same thing with the ram. I went with a much more powerful processor than the original 1.89Mhz/2MB Cache setup and dropped the ram back from 2G to 1G and actually saved about $20 by doing so.
Like I said, upgrades, upgrades....
Any supernerd WoW, EQ type-sah 'round here?
check out these screenshots...

I would also try to find a Klipsh (preferably 5.1 THX) system for the PC. They can be had for cheap...just have to look...and they sound awesome!

tonight i bought:
logitech x-540 5.1 speakers

(matrix mode on these is the shit, btw.)
~and~
soundblaster x-fi xtreme gamer pci soundcard

for a total of around $200, my sound is significantly upgraded. all the clicks and pops of my 7 year old soundcard/4.1 speakers are gone. i LOVE the clarity and depth of this inexpensive setup.

Brandon: Nice setup! I can't blame you with going with Dell if you get super discounts. I get the same through my company now
I've been waiting for my Audigy 2 card to die... but the damn thing won't! I really want a X-Fi
BTW, yes, there are quite a few gamers here
