I got an 05 sti, I'm looking to hit 400 or a little over. I'd Like to be near 340 on pump.I'm thinking the 30r bolt on. yea or nea? It's my daily driver so lots of miles go on now...
Current Mods StgII ~ intake, cobb EM, txscatless. I got a APS FMIC on order. I got the fuel pump and a koyo Radi waiting to be installed.

Thanks in advance.

Mike

Hey Mike,
Well, a couple of things to consider. AFAIK, the APS FMIC only works for stock location turbo's, not rotated ones. Maybe they sell a different top section to accomidate this though :)

If you're looking for a stock location turbo, take a look at the SuperZilla 55 like I have or the FP Red. Both will get you close to 400WHP on pump and over that with race fuel or meth/water injection.

If you're looking at rotated setups, the 30R and 35R are good choices!

Darrin (drwrx) is the resident turbo god, so I'd definitely talk to him a little :)

It's the old "triple constraints" dilemma.

Since you already have money invested in a turbo-back exhaust, intake and FMIC, a stock postion turbo looks to be the most cost effective choice.

Both the SZ55 and FP Red are good choices.

The SZ55 regularly puts down 385-400 whp on pump gas. (dynojet)

The FP Red can clear 400 whp on pump gas and can hit 500 whp on race gas. (dynojet)

You may also want to look at Blouch Performance's Dominator II and III turbos.

Don't get me wrong, I like the GT30R/GT35R but the extra cost of intake, IC, exhaust and wastegate piping make make them a very costly addition. And only the 82 (and higher) trim GT30R/35R get over 400 whp on pump gas. And those babies are some slow spooling turbos! Can you say 250 whp at 4,000 RPMs!

Well I don't have lots of cash... But I have a budget of $1500...

Well I picked up the WBR FMIC.

I'm thinking the SuperZilla...

Well I think I'm going to go with the sz55. It seems like the best BANG for the buck...

those Deadbolt "rebuilds for life" only apply to wear and tear from normal use. it's of no use if your oil pump lets go and the turbo is treated to death by oil starvation. I only know this by watching El Presidente's trials and tribulations with teh STi...
