TDU XB360 Review

MOOR - Massive Open Online Racing

wow... holy shit is all I can say

Story... Again this is a racing game, story isn't really all that important, and a good thing because quite honestly there is absolutely no story... there are cut scenes to make it feel like a story, but, no story. Basically you try to max out all the races to "win" but being online it makes it way more fun.

Gameplay... This game shines in gameplay. Hands down. The realism of driving the cars is not 100%, however, I would say it is more realistic than Forza. Some points of interest...

In the beginning you have to choose your char, there are ten to choose from 5 males 5 females, all kinds of different races and styles, Note that even so this is only a template as you can change these later on.

Different races:

Laps - typical, this is not open, more like circuit
Point to Point - again typical this is not open, more like circuit
1 v 1 - this is quite interesting in single player you can still race Bots, however in muti you can race for $$$ which makes it interesting.
Hitch Hiker - Basically you give a guy a ride somewhere, during this race you have a driving meter and a timer if you mess up your meter goes down if it gets to zero he says to drop him off there and you fail( I tried these but found they were quite difficult)
Shopping - You give a super model a ride, same basic principle as HitchHiker and you get clothing coupons to change the dress of your character
Rental Return - easiest way to earn money in the game... you meet up with a guy and he tells you he'll pay you X$ to return his car, $ gets deducted for crashes or going off road like HH and Shopping but if you return it perfect you get 1.5x what he said he would pay you. There is no time limit for this so take it easy. These races are one time deals so keep redoing them until you can return the car in perfect form

Customization:
Basically if it is an option from the factory you can put it on the car when you buy it.

After the Race around the Crater Race you unlock the paint shop.

In your house you can change what your Char look like... basically remodel the face/head, change clothes(upper, lower, shoes, gloves and sunglasses)

No bodykits in my dealings so far... however you can change the wheels and interior to your liking provided they are OEM... I have a C6 Z06 with Black C6R race rims

There are tuner shops, for certain companies... all except US brands i think. the only Japanese car/s in the game are the 350z, and 350z S-tune, which can be changed to a R-tune later. The Skyline GTR34 was rumored to be in it, but I have not seen it yet.

Car Choices
While the game has an extensive list this is the only place I feel it falls short... You have no BMW's or Porsches... would've liked to see RUF at least... however I can understand this because I am sure they were fair close to maxing out the memory in this game. It is basically like PGR3 with full interior/cockpit views. Also should note that they are cars from all genres and time periods on here, from the Jaguar Etype to the chrysler ME4Twelve. They also have motorcycles.

However, you can test drive any car you can buy... also when you customize a car like you want you can look at it from the outside, actually climb in, open the doors, roll down the windows, even start the car in the dealership.

House
The house itself is not customizable... but there are tons of houses you can buy from pidly 150K to a whopping >3M

The computer AI in this game is astounding... a little weak but all the cars use different lines, some late brake/apex while others don't. The NRC's (non racing cars) are absolutely awesome. they use turn signals, generally get out of your way if it is four lanes or more, even swerve if you are coming at them and they have time to see you.

The popo are faily easy to avoid with any higher class sports car... unless you have three badges, I have not seen any helicopters, but they will put up road blocks. The police don't care about anything but wrecks... I have passed them at over 190, ran red lights/stop signs, even driven very aggressively, and they don't come after you. tap a car though and they will chase you. Depending on how much damage you cause will be the price of your ticket, I got one for just over 22K but generally around 4-6K. The roadblocks actually stop your car they don't let you cruise on through so you gotta go around em.

there are also picture modes and route maker modes.

Sound:
Holy shit does this game pass the standard 100x over on sound, EVERY car sounds lifelike... I did notice that the music/radio doesn't play very loud, which i didn't mind at all The navigator chick isn't horrible but can get annoying if you have alot of turns. Voiceovers are nice too, every different person has a well diffrentiated voice. Your char never talks.

Graphics:
Well it is an XBOX 360 game and as such I would expect no less than flawless and this game does not dissappoint, the scenery is beautiful, the cars are exquisite, burnout smoke is smoky, water is watery... everything graphical about this game is on point. There is damage modeling but only on the NRC's and cop cars

Overall Impression: 12 out of 10... this game is just that good... I don't normally say this about race games, (I would only give GT4 a 9.5, for example) Anyone will be able to pick this game up and start playing and enjoy it. For us gearheads... let me put it this way, I almost called in to work tonight so I cold play it more... Quite honestly if you don't have a 360, this game is worth buying for it, however I am told it will be coming out for other sytems just unknown when/what

Some important things to do first

1. Rent a cheap car and buy the cheapest house and get a couple of races under your belt with your rental so you can get a nice car to start

2. Remember that certain races require one of the 7 classes A-G to race so pick wisely

3. go all the way around the island and make sure to visit all the dealerships, otherwise you will never unlock the motorcycles.

4. have fun, especially online...

One other thing of note... If your 360 is already hooked up to the internet you don't select to go multiplayer, when the game loads it will already be in multiplayer. You can still do single player mode stuff. You can sell your cars outright or you can put them up for sale online and people can buy them from you, same thing for houses...

Disclaimer:The previous review is the opinion of Wangan_X and if you find the game different feel free to write your own review. I don't care if you don't like what I said about the game.

downloaded the demo earlier actually i was playing it about 10 minutes before you posted this lol... its a fun game. its definetly interesting... although when i was driving around in my ferrari... it seemed people were more interested in having fun than racing.... for example... a bunch of 20-30 year olds were in my "game world" and they were all jumping their disgustingly expensive sport cars off the hills at the local golf course....

i of course joined in. after a short discussion about the fact that my ferrari looked like the one from spy hunter... i was challenged to a race by a small ducati who then, not surprisingly, handed my ass to me.

im not 100% convinced this is the best racing game ever.. but until Forza 2 comes out this will probably go on my to-buy list. I still am in love with Project Gotham Racing 3 however as the crowds are much different. The more i play TDO the more i find annoying little children in supercars... PGR3 consists of mainly middle aged guys... half of which are british and all are very serious about racing.

basically.. to go with wangan's review.. he's right. this game rocks. most of you will probably still find me hanging around the PGR3 rooms until my racing buddies move on to the next game however..besides... i get to drive an Ariel Atom in pgr!

i didn't spend gobs of time on PGR3 it was way too easy compared to the first two.

i like TDU... check that, Love TDU. Online is fun, wish you could run for pinks... i don't care for the handling in the bikes... you should have made a race with shitloads of turns

go test drive some cars and tell me PGR3 is better

Test Drive got everything right except the racing physics. I hope some other games ape the online play modes, that's the best part of the game. I like the demo and I like PGR3, but I'm really waiting for Forza2.

PGR3 sucks! I can't stand the blurring at high speeds.

PGR3 is much better than 1 or 2. take that for what it's worth...

I hope they will release a good steering wheel for the 360 soon. the last XBox wheel wasn't that great, and that's BEFORE comparing it to the Logitech wheel for PS2/GT3...
