Well my downpipe came Saturday morning and much to my surprise it took me a little over 2 hours to install (which equals mere minutes in normal "mechanicish" type time). Took it for a spin then applied ye ole AP and bumped to stage 2.... Quite a difference!
It seems quieter at idle (if that makes sense) but louder once I get on the throttle. WOT I hit 17 psi (havent used the AP to track exact number). The worrisome smoke is gone from the PB Blaster but the exhaust wrap I used on the DP smells like burning fabric (at least I assume its the wrap). Is that normal? Now I just want to go out and really give it a good run...
Yep, perfectly normal to have smells when you put on a new part and esp. if it's wrapped. Amazing the difference the DP makes, eh?

Curious, you said stinky and smokey. Is the A/C drain hose in the same location as the XT's? If that is the case, I had to bend mine up out of the way otherwise it will touch the downpipe and start to burn/melt.

Also, I noticed that my re-used gasket between the turbo and the downpipe did not sit correctly - leaving a small hole which pumped hot air unto a collection of wires.
This freaked me out enough to order a new turbo gasket and installed it ASAP. That help cut down on the stink (which I think was partly due to the burning wires).
Okee dokee... 50 miles, most smells gone; no leaks that I know of. I assume I would be having an underboost type problem if there was a leak (or that tell tale lawnmower sound)... Now if only the weather/traffic would cooperate for me to have a little fun
Thanks btw for all the good wrench vibes guys.
Anyone have a tasty spare rear sway bar hanging around (man, I cant stop!!!! HELP I have mod/spending diarrhea!!!)

Different problem. I don't think I posted up about this 'cause I figured I'd called enough attention to my incompetence. Thought I'd try and tackle at least one problem alone.

Leaky DP would be a lawnmower sound and boost spikes if it was really bad
