Honda Civic Type R. The R is for tuRbo.

Post by zaxrex »

Yes, V-Tec lovers will wail and bemoan the fact that at least the Euro spec Type R will be forced induction.
Mugen will put the heavy breathing components on a 2 L mill to spin the chassis dyno at 210 HP.
Oh the hot hatches had across the pond.

Wait. So it's turbo now and has LESS power than that outgoing CTR?? I call shenanigans.

"chassis dyno".....so, 210whp. Not as bad as I first though. Still....mild tuning on a K20 does that and stays N/A

OK, it may have less in peak numbers, but it shifts the torque and power curve to the left, giving you more area under the curve. That means a longer smile, just not as big.
And I bet you dollars for donuts that "mild tuning" on the turbo will give marked improvements while keeping better emissions/fuel economy.

Just as VW hiked power with its latest Golf GTI, so Honda will increase the Type R’s output – but not by much. A figure of 210bhp would allow a 0-62mph time of less than 6.5 seconds and a top speed approaching 150mph.

So, it IS crank HP. VW's 2.0T makes 200/210 even in the lowly GTI. The "R" version ups that a LOT. A CTR is supposed to be brash.....a hard edge. 210hp is what MINI gets out of its 1.6L in the JCW models. Any Honda "Type R" needs to be special because Honda charges a premium for them.

I started out in Honda's 25yrs ago......the specs on this car are a let-down. The other thing....this body style is UK/EU only....it won't come to the US.

Good choice putting $4,000 rims on your 1990 Honda Civic. That's like Betty White going out and getting her tits done.
