Droid Gingerbread How do you customize txt msg sound
Curious if anyone knows how or if it's even possible to make custom txt msg sounds for their droid. I have the software to chop up any mp3 of my choice its just where do I put it so my phone allows me to choose it from the Notification Ringtone selection, be advised I've used a file manager and scowered every folder to find where my default sounds are, but to no avail.

When you connect your phone to your computer, enable the usb storage. Go to the drive the phone is on and create a folder called "Media". In that folder create three more "Alarms", "Notifications", and "Ringtones".
For text messages sounds, copy whatever sounds you want in to the "Notifications" folder.
After you disconnect your phone from your computer you can go into your messaging app settings and choose the sound from "Select Ringtone".

yerp, chuck nailed the easy way.
if you want to modify/remove the stock sounds, you'll have to go into /system/media/audio/ and then your relevant dir (alert, notifications, etc)
all these are .oggs btw.

yerp. and m4a's. and about a dozen additional file types.
chances are, if it makes noise when you click on it, android will play it as a ringtone.
or an alert.
or an alarm.

Hmmm, when I hook it up to the comp and enable The Usb storage it gives me access to the SD card but not the phone itself but I can't get to the folders from the computer to move my ringtones too.

create new folders on the root of your sd card and you'll be fine.
you won't need to access / for what you're trying to do.

Re: Droid Gingerbread How do you customize txt msg sound
I opened the drive the sd card memory is on > created a folder called Media > created (3) folders inside of media labled Alarms, Notifications, Ringtones > put the desired sound file in each > when I disconnect and go into either settings or the message app settings to change the sounds under select ringtone, Incoming calls , and Notification Ringtone I can't find the files i placed in the Media folders.
Now I'm not quite certain if I'm supposed to find a folder called root, but I looked for it and through the computer I can't find it on the phone I can but I can't put anythig in there. I'm assuming by root you just meant create a media folder and place it wherever the rest of your folders are on the sd card

Yeah m4r is strictly an iPhone format. It won't play anywhere else and iPhones won't play anything else. Stupid iphone.

Re: Droid Gingerbread How do you customize txt msg sound
Your guys steps worked, I just converted the ringtones I had to mp3 format and everything is gravy. A friend suggested I download Ringdroid (free) from the market and whatever sounds you have on your phone can be assigned be your text message sound or ringtone sound and it has a recorder to create additional audio clips.
