The new Mini Cooper SD packs a 2.0 liter, 143 hp diesel engine that gives the Minis 55 MPG on average. The 0-62 mph time is 8.1 seconds and the top speed is 134 mph. The Cooper SD models will be equipped with brake energy generation, a start/stop knob, a shift point display and electric power steering. You can get this engine in standard Mini, Clubman, Countryman and even Convertible flavors, but don't expect it to be a cheap car: Prices in Germany will start at about $34,000. The Convertible SD will start at a nose-bleed high price of $39,500.

Good choice putting $4,000 rims on your 1990 Honda Civic. That's like Betty White going out and getting her tits done.
There are only two MINI's I'd buy....a 2006 JCW GP or a new 2011 JCW with bigger turbo and Brembo's.

at $4/gal for diesel and a $10k premium over a gas motor, this thing makes little financial sense. Hell, a 335d is the same money here (and a LOT faster and nicer)

just because I'm bored......MINI Cooper S vs. MINI Cooper D (assuming base price + a few of the same option packages on each):

most hybrids don't make sense, financially speaking, and they carry a $3k-7k premium over their gas-powered siblings. this car is multiples of that increase.

I, for one, think that, while fun to drive and thrifty on gas in general, that all the Coopers have very clunky suspensions with too heavily weighted steering. It doesn't feel like a small car. I'm sure that's exactly why some people buy it, but it kinda kills it for me. Still a fantastic car though!
you're talking old and new? I don't like the new ones much but loved my R53

I bought a Civic Hybrid in 2002. With no sales tax (I was in MD at the time) and the two year federal tax credit (credit, not deduction), I broke even off the lot. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have done it. 0-60 in 14 seconds, my life flashed before my eyes every time I merged onto the highway.

The standard Cooper is still slower with only 116 hp.
no. standard cooper isn't slow; its suffciently light so as to be ok. its no different than most of the other cars in its class.
The 2011 Mini Cooper comes with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine good for 121 hp and 114 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual with hill-start assist is standard and a six-speed automatic is optional. Mini estimates a manual-equipped hatchback will go from zero to 60 mph in 8.4 seconds (9.7 seconds with the automatic).
0-60 in 8.4 isn't "slow". Its adequate. My '91 CRX Si was about the same.
