Cruise Control?

So I just pulled the trigger on a cruise control kit for my...bike.

The install looks pretty hairy linky 1, linky 2, linky 3, but I'm genuinely excited about giving it a shot.

This might be one of my sillier endeavors. Can't wait!

there's a perfectly reasonable explanation for needing an external reservoir: no giant intake manifold.

my bonk has four individual intake runners and four separate throttle bodies. although it's a decent size, (1300cc) there just isn't enough space in the intake tract to store enough vacuum to pull a servo to hold the throttle cable at 80.

it looks like i'll be tapping all four cylinders' vacuum lines (with check valves) and using an external vacuum canister. jeez.

i know it sounds old-school and counter-intuitive compared to a completely electronic unit, but the vacuum system offers a bike many advantages. one of which being a smoother (softer?) speed control versus a completely electronic unit.

if you go uphill in a car with the cruise on... you'll typically get a violent throttle shift to make it uphill. violent throttle changes = very bad things on two wheels. especially if turning (read: leaned over).

like i said, it's a silly endeavor. but why the not? i really wouldn't mind relaxing my right hand grip on long trips.

nope. different throttle for uphill versus straight.

if only i could use a $10 throttle lock...

Probably not until after the holidays at a minimum.

I may wait until spring. I guess it will depend on how mild a winter we have. And yes, this is a cruise control install.
