SEMA 2010: Local Motors puts five Rally Fighters on display
Autoblog wrote:Just like it promised, Local Motors has come to the 2010 SEMA show with five ready-to-rock Rally Fighters. The crowd-sourced design is paying off, because LM says that another five should be done before we switch the calendar over to 2011.

On hand are the two prototype vehicles, known as Beta 1 and Beta 2, while the other three Rally Fighters represent the first vehicles going to customer homes. Jay Rogers, CEO of Local Motors, naturally scooped up the first example and he uses it as his daily driver. (Awesome.) The other two customer cars are going to face two very different lives; the one going to Jay Zuppardo and his family will be turned into a sand rail, while the other going to John Domolky will be used as a daily driver vehicle in his hometown of Boston. See them all for yourself in our high-res gallery below.

from the first time i saw these i've really been smitten.

they are awesome, awesome cars.

and more awesome because they're even within the realm of "attainable" versus supercars and other $texas exotics.

Well, obtainable only if your first name starts with a "J". <---- looks at president, looks at Rally Fighter, looks at president

Well, Jason just got his back, so he is out.
I can't off the top of my head think of any other members whose names start with "J".

All the vehicle owners names in the article start with "J"

This is the one based on the X3 (X5?), right?

If do, you have to afford the donor car (not exactly cheap, if it's new), plus the rebuild.

There are some super cars you can get in that range, if you're looking towards the not-crazy and used end of things.

(edit : I would so buy this (if it is as similar to an SR8 as I think it is): http://www.local-motors.com/entry.php?e=1246 )

it uses a BMW diesel V8 but it isn't based on anything, it's a tube frame Baja racer with a FOX suspension.
the final cost is nearly $60k but that's a small price to pay to escape the zombie apocalypse. :ya:

exactly. i'm sure i'll be in a position to own a $60k car in my life. i don't think i'll be in a position to afford a $275k car.
