2005 WRX Wagon WRB 55k on the body
A customer came to me to try and get some help selling his WRX.
As I understand it he bought the car used. Took it out to Summit Point once and the motor went kablooey. I'm assuming the previous owner was the culprit and this guy suffered the engine failure.
We (Beyer Subaru) installed a whole new long block w/ turbo. So the engine is Brand New as well as all associated plumbing and turbo.
He is unsure of his asking price but I told him I would put out some feelers and see if there is any interest.

That does not speak well of the previous owner... Why is the guy selling it now that it has a new motor? Just afraid?

I have absolutely no idea. I don't even think it was warranty work, I think he paid out of pocket for it. It sounds like he bought a car, took it on a few "parade" laps and the engine goes kablooey. Basically his loss and whoever buys it their gain. Cause it's a brand new engine and all.

If this was sans engine I'd be all over it. I was given a 2.5L/2.0L head hybrid motor for the rally car and will have a spare 2.0L with forged pistons/rods just sitting in the garage now. Ah well.

Re: 2005 WRX Wagon WRB 55k on the body
How much does he want for it? Any additional info?
I'm looking to buy a blobeye (preferrably 05) WRX wagon in place of my 07 STi. However, I do need to get rid of my STi first.
Let me know about the wagon.

I don't know what he's asking. He came by again a while after I posted this, to get some help in trying to sell it. He is a super cool, down to earth guy. He is actually a part time instructor at Summit Point during FATT sessions and some other events. He seems to be in his 50-60's. I'll give him a ring and see if he has any more info.

I talked to Tom and he said he paid $18k for the car, has since dropped $9k into the replacement engine, and is asking for $22.5k.
It has enkei wheels (as well as oem), short ram, and catback exhaust.

I'm not the kind to normally say this, but he's asking way too much for a 5 year-old car w/ 55k that has been tracked.
$22.5 will damn near buy you an new WRX. The current rate of a low milage 2005 WRX is around $16-17k through a dealer, a full 5-6k less than what he is asking as an individual.
Sorry, don't want to come off as a jerk, but at that price, that car is going nowhere.

I agree. Thats a lot of $$$ for that car... eventhough I love the 2005 I would not spend that kind of money on it

Would have been quite entertaining w/o the engine.
Now?

Yep, stock long block (including everything that touches oil), turbo, and all associated plumbing. Plus all Dealer Labor, which as we all know ain't cheap.sirwilliam wrote:Stock block for $9k?thermobox wrote:I talked to Tom and he said he paid $18k for the car, has since dropped $9k into the replacement engine, and is asking for $22.5k.

Your not coming off as a jerk. Your coming off as an intelligent individual that is talking mostly truth. I feel the same, just tryin to help a brudda out.drwrx wrote:I'm not the kind to normally say this, but he's asking way too much for a 5 year-old car w/ 55k that has been tracked.

Yep, what he should have done. Take the loss and walk away. Now he has paid more into it and is not going to see the money back.zaxrex wrote:Would have been quite entertaining w/o the engine.

I just feel for him and am gonna shoot the info as I get it. If anybody sees this and gives me an offer I'll fire it to him.

Dude! He got swindled on that stock block and labor. It can easily be done for half that if not less. That is fully built engine pricing territory.
