BaT Exclusive: Alfa-Powered P4 Replica
Bring A Trailer wrote:Even in a world overfilled with tupperware Cobras and ‘32 Fords, we can still find time to appreciate an interesting limited production track-driven replica. This custom build does a reasonably good job of replicating a Ferrari P4 body, but the best part is what’s inside. It is powered by an Alfa Romeo V6 with straight pipes and has a full tube frame. The sound alone would likely sell us on this car if we encountered it in the pits, but amazingly it is also street registered. It is available near Chicago, Illinois for $75k OBO. Contact us at mail@bringatrailer.com if you are interested.

The car was a Lee Noble (Noble Motorsports) kit that was imported to the U.S. through Brengeman’s Specialty Auto Imports Co. in Florida for Ed Buck in 1989. The original owner sent the kit to Sports Car Specialties in Ohio for serious performance and originality alterations. A full 4130 roll cage was added to the chassis as well as structure to both lighten and stiffen the chassis. The suspension was cut off and re-engineered for better geometry, adjustability, stronger uprights and bigger brakes. The interior fiberglass tube was discarded and a more authentic aluminum interior was fabricated and installed. The car was switched to right hand drive, altered to accept the Alfa Romeo 3.0L V6 and the close ratio rennsport 915 transaxle.

The center spider roof is hand rolled aluminum to incorporate the full roll-cage and give a more authentic roof line than the kit. The windshield wiper area and dashboard were hand made to give a for more correct look. The paint is original to the beginning of the build and rates a 4 out of 10. Having said that, the tatty paint actually is the crowd favorite at car shows. It just won best of show for a local Italian only car show at the Promenade in Oak Brook, Illinois.

The engine is an internally balanced Alfa Romeo V6 with a dry sump, Carillo Rods, Ross racing pistons, lumpy cams, and programmable fuel injection. It still runs on pump gas and makes 300hp. Huge vented rotors and 4-piston calipers are used all the way around. A close-ratio Rennsport gear set and Quaife ATB diff in a fresh 915 gearbox are shifted via a WEVO gate shifter. The car weighs 2090 dry, and in true 60’s race car form the clutch is heavy, the throttle is touchy, the steering is fast and light, and when the cams hit you better be pointing in the correct direction!

The seller just finished the title and plate process in Illinois last week. It is titled as a 1966 Ferrari Custom Vehicle. The car is not for the faint of heart to drive regularly on the street. Receipts are included from all owners since the project was started. It first ran this past Winter, had its first track day in May, and had its first street drive last Saturday. Total investments that can be accounted for are around $180k. The seller planned on cleaning up the paint and doing a period correct cloth quilted interior this Winter but has since lost his job. Check out the Flickr album below for many more photos.

What an AMAZING project car. I'd jump on this in a heartbeat if I had the means. How sad that the seller is parting with it due to unemployment. He loved this car more that I ever could.
And I could quiet a bit...

That is a really cool build. Even if I had 75 large, I still don't think I could treat the car the way it deserves.

Wow, amazing.

if I had Jay Lenno $$$ I'd buy it, finish the interior and invite the seller to drive it once a year with me at a vintage track event.
