Agreed, this is pretty shitty... I love it when companies do this kind of thing. By locking consumers into a product, they have no incentive to make the product better. If everyone opens up and shares, there becomes a reason to add features and better the product over all... I hate this kind of stuff...

it's the only GAME CONSOLE that will stream. there are set top boxes, DVD players and now TVs that will stream. I'd like to see the other consoles invited to the party but it isn't as stifling as the average cell phone exclusivity contract.

Hmmmm....this might be another nail in the "should I get a PS3" coffin. Been tossing it around but I've really enjoyed being able to stream Netflix over the 360....especially since we cancelled cable a while ago and do everything via netflix and teh webz. I've wanted a PS3 for the blue-ray capability and some of the more in-depth games (I think the PS3 lineup is far more epic and "suck you in" ish than the standard fare on the 360). This could be interesting.........

as an owner of a 360 and PS3 I'm not sure what you mean by that. there are only a few PS3 exclusives that I would call epic: Metal Gear, Uncharted and, well, that's about it. the two most epic-est games I can think of are Oblivion and Fallout 3, both of which were out for the 360 before the PS3.

that said, if I were just getting 1 console I would probably go with the PS3.

Don't know....maybe I'm just working off of old knowledge. It just seems like titles like the Final Fantasy series and some of the more "story" based games seemed far more in-depth and those were always on my PS2. When I wanted to go in and kick a$$ and shoot a bunch of stuff I powered up the 360. This could have changed....I just always had a separation in my mind of story games = PlayStation while shoot em up bang bang if it moves omg kill it = the 360 line up.

I've been really happy with the PS3 so far. I don't spend a bunch of time with FPS games and online team gameplay- both of which aren't strong suits of the 360. The titles are finally rolling out for the PS3 (uncharted 2, Fallout 3 God of War, etc) and I'm having a blast. Adding in the netflix streaming, PlayOn streaming and blu-ray drive makes it pretty feature-laden for a single console household. *


* i don't count the Wii... it's kind of ubiquitous.

New about this that I missed before. There will currently be no software update in order to stream Netflix to the PS3. Instead you'll have to have a "streaming disc" in the system. Every time. But they say this is only temporary.
