First things first, You need to enable IPCC updates, which is supported in iTunes 8.2 and 9.0. If you have either of those installed, you’re good. Here is how to enable IPCC on OS X and Windows 2000, XP, and Vista:
Mac OS X:
1. Close iTunes if it is open
2. Start Terminal (Applications > Utilities)
3. Run the following command: defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE
Windows 2000/XP/Vista (32-bit):
1. Go to Start -> Run (
2. type in “cmd” and hit enter
3. Type/copy+paste this into the command console that comes up: “C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe” /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1
4. Hit enter
Windows XP/Vista (64-bit):
1. Go to Start -> Run (
2. type in “cmd” and hit enter
3. Type/copy+paste this into the command console that comes up: “C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.exe” /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1
4. Hit enter
Okay, now that that’s done, you are ready to update your iPhone with a modified carrier file bundle. Don’t worry, this won’t break anything. All it will do is give you an extra menu in the Network settings area, where you can enter the network settings that will enable MMS.
Right-click and save this file to your computer. Once you have it, follow the following steps:
1. Download the file to some location on your computer
2. Plug in your iPhone
3. Start iTunes
4. Click on your iPhone in the device listing in iTunes
5. Alt-Click the “Check for Update” button (Shift-click in Windows)
6. Browse to where you saved the IPCC you downloaded
7. Select the file and click Choose (or OK on windows)
8. Reboot your iPhone
Okay, once your phone has rebooted, you just need to enter the appropriate settings that will allow MMS messages to be sent and received. To get where you need to be, go to Settings -> General -> Network area. You should see a new Celullar Data Network option. Go into that area, and enter the following settings:
* wap.cingular;
* Username: wap@cingulargprs.com;
* Password which is case sensitive: CINGULAR1;
* mmsc.cingular.com;
* MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.32
Now back out of that menu, because we are all done, my friends.
You should now be able to both send and receive MMS messages from your iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS, enabling such riveting conversations as the one above.
Please let us know if you have any problems.
Thanks,
Anty506

I'd been meaning to link to the HoFo thread, but I've been busy/lazy. In short, it works and well. Happy MMS'ing.

Re: How to Enable MMS in iPhone 3.0 Right Now
I now have the option to send a photo via MMS but the message always fails. I double checked the settings, but so far no luck...
the message gets to 80% or 90% then fails.

Ok Anty this is what I have found. Apparently AT&T has updated their system more. When I put the SIM in a non iPhone and made two test calls to VM my phone became unblocked for MMS and I sent a message just fine, however as soon as the SIM was back in the iPhone no MMS.
Now it's probably true that if I changed my line to a non-iPhone data plan it might work, however since their software has gotten smarter I have seen more and more ppl using the regular handset plan for PDAs get super high bills as I believe their newer system software is catching that too.

Now if I attempt to send an SMS to multiple people it says it's an MMS message and IT fails.

I just plugged my phone into iTunes and hit update. It was much easier...
