Desktop background killed. Any ideas?

Maybe this is an issue that I'm unfamiliar with but it has me baffled and I can't find anything online about it.
No this is not an idiot post saying I can't change my desktop background.


Long story short. I have logmein. I tried to access my windows desktop rig. Every time I do it either crashes the browser or disconnects me on whatever computer I'm using to access it with. It only happens on this computer and no others. (This crashing/disconnecting issue has happened on internet explorer, firefox, and safari while using different comptuers. so it's not browser related that I know of or any hardware issues on the computer being used to access) This is annoying. But not as annoying as what happens next. The whole computer is locked up still under control from logmein. I try to reconnect to log out and it does not let me. No control over the computer whatsoever. Ok just reboot the computer.

Upon reboot it does not go to the windows login screen. It just sits at black. So I go in and revert to last known good configuration. Success. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the lgomein client on this comptuer several times. No change. Same result every time. I don't care too much since I can access my PowerMac G5 with the system with no problem. The G5 is networked to the windows rig so I can pull any files I need that way.

If anyone knows what would cause logmein to behave so (just on THIS computer not any of my others) I'm all ears. That's not the problem though.


THIS is my problem I am confused about.... Something (assuming it is logmein) has killed the background image on my comptuer. It's just grey nothingness. I've tried changing it through properties. It saves and shows the little thumbnail that is the background image but no luck. So I try to go to the image right click and "set as desktop background" when I check properties the image is now set as that but my desktop background is still grey. Yes I've tried "refresh". According to the comptuer it's happily displaying my background image that I selected but all I have on my desktop is a nice solid grey color. When logmein takes over it DOES get rid of your desktop background so I'm wondering if it wrestled control away from windows and just never gave it back when it has the error.


This is not a huge problem since it's only visual and the rest of the computer works fine. But I just wanted to pick some brains to see if I could get any suggestions.

Logmein?! Sounds German (or like Chinese noodles). Sorry dude I don't know anything about that software.

Uninstall that and put VNC on the machine.... sounds like fishy software...

have not used or heard of logmein... but, apparently, they want to make money.
