Billshrink.com wrote:With the recent release information on Apple’s new iPhone 3GS and Palm’s venture back into the market with their highly anticipated Pre, there are more legitimate smartphone options than ever. How will you decide on which device you will spend your hard earned money? Below is a comprehensive cost/benefit analysis of the latest mobile technologies, analyzing the comparative features of each, along with the actual price you will pay for the phone and service over the course of a two year contract.
iPhone: $3600
Pre: $2400

Yerp, espensive. :(

Surprised they didn't throw in a Verizon handset for comparison's sake. I believe their plans are even more expensive.

Here's a quick plan i put together at verizonwireless.com with the same features as the article (unlimited voice, messaging and data)
One time Activation Fee $35.00 First Bill

Plan:
BlackBerry® Nationwide Email & Messaging Unlimited
— 2-year contract
$149.99 Monthly
Visual Voice Mail $2.99 Monthly
VZ Navigator $9.99 Monthly
Package 1 Total Due Today*: $199.99
Package 1 Total Due Monthly: $162.97
iPhone: $3600
Pre: $2400
G1: $3149
Storm: $3912

MEh, but for those us of who want phones that do more than call other phones (which I assume is everyone reading this thread), it's the price we pay.

FYI: http://www.infoworld.com/t/services/att ... rvices-041
AT&T's strange delay on iPhone tethering and MMS may be an early warning that the new services will pack a hefty price tag. It's time to say no

the DOD employee discount will save me $10.50/month pre-tax at AT&T&evil. sounds like you've got a better discount. care to share your coupons?

tethering will be more than $60 per month. my SWAG is $99.99 with a low GB/month cap. it would be nice to see a pay-as-you-go tether plan for occasional "emergency" internet use.

This is it. For a while I went back to using a non-smart phone with Verizon. It was so frustrating to deal with the Email program on it, and the webbrowsing limitations, (plus the outer screen broke), that I re-activated the Motorola Q. LONG LIVE THE Q.

All I know is, my AT&T bill already averages $110/ month which is retarded. If if goes any higher than that AT&T can kiss my @$$.
