--AlanAutoBlog wrote:Fans of Honda's four-wheeled sport-bike, the S2000, will want to snap one up soon, as Honda has announced that the S2000's ten-year production run will end at the close of the 2009 model year. The high-revving roadster has always had more in common with the company's high performance motorcycles, thanks to it's 9,000 rpm redline and minimal low-end torque. The S2000's abilities to tackle the twisties and assault the track have made it one of the go-to choices for enthusiasts, and with plenty of aftermarket support, it became a prime platform for tuners.
US sales of the S2000 dipped to a mere 72 units in December bringing the 12-month total to 2,538, down from 4,302 the year before. Over its ten-year run Honda has sold 110,000 S2000s world wide with about 65,000 of those here in the US.

Just as with every cycle of the auto industry, the sports cars are killed off first. In this case, the 2009 model year Honda S2000 will be the last.

not much cost savings in getting rid of a trim level vice a model that shares nothing with any other Honda product.chicken n waffles wrote:bummer. i was hoping they'd axe the civic si (and the mugen) before ol' s2k got whacked.

Agreed, I'm not certain everyone didn't see this one coming a few years back. According to Consumer Reports sales had dwindled down to just 2,538 in 2008. I'm not saying it didn't sell well over it's life, or that I didn't like the S2000, but it's day in the sun past a couple of years ago.Mr Kleen wrote:not much cost savings in getting rid of a trim level vice a model that shares nothing with any other Honda product.

Perhaps this is related to the newish cars in the works? Honda could probably make a FR coupe/convertible with the engine that's rumored to be going into the NSX. That is, if it's still going to be made.

it was a sad day to be sure. the new NSX was shaping up to be better than Toyota's super car and might just have given the GT-R a run for it's money.

It's shameful how blatantly that car is a copy of the 350Z. There isn't an original line on the chassis.sirwilliam wrote:I thought it was b/c they were replacing it w/ the new S3000? So no S3000 now? I really liked the new S3000=> LINKY
