Calling all nerds...

Post by GaToR »

The story:

I have a bit of free time over the holidays at work. We have no formal cross-training here, so you just ask the guy who's busier than you if you can help out. Volunteered to fabricate some wireless network stuff.

My knowledge level on the topic is 'Very Low'. Hopefully after connecting several widgets it will be upgraded to 'Low'. 8)

First task: help hunt down hardware locally.

Radio shack has too limited a range of adapters. Need something more specialized.

I have found the first thing on my list online. An SMA female to TNC female bulkhead adapter. But would like to locate a few shops in the Fairfax/Loudon areas to go browse. There's more to be found.

Does such a place exist, or should I be shopping online mostly?

Thx in advance.

Microcenter might be your best bet; one in Farifax, one in Rockville.

Local? I'd have to go with Mr Kleen's suggestion: Microcenter.

As for online resources, you might want to try MonoPrice.com.

Good luck!

Unfortunately, there is almost nothing local for electronics parts... one of your best bets for cables, connectors, etc would be Ham Radio Outlet in Woodbridge Otherwise, I use Digikey for almost everything online.

Thanks, at least I won't be chasing ghosts now thinking there is.

Anyone ever worked through S.M. Electronics for online ordering?

Again, appreciate the info guys.

I haven't used SM, but I started using Digikey back in like 2000 and they've never disappointed. They're based in the midwest (MN I think) and ship pretty quick
