That's it! I'm moving to San Jose.
With the US economy pissing everyone off and a lot of tech jobs moving to countries most of us can't even pronounce let alone locate on a map, InfoWorld suggests that you move yourself with the jobs. It even offers a handy little guide that shows where the jobs are, what they're paying, cost of living, and how you can get a job there.
So who's up for coming with me and starting a business in Costa Rica? *crickets* Anyone?

Re: That's it! I'm moving to San Jose.
I will go on record to say that San Jose is the single BIGGEST SHITHOLE I have evAr had the displeasure of visiting.
All of Costa Rica is absolutely stunning.... EXCEPT FOR SAN JOSE.
The highlight was this: In the span of ten minutes I slipped on a puddle of vomit the size of a sidewalk square (2ish feet sq?) and was then propositioned by a one-eyed Nicaraguan bum. And this was in the "nice" side of town.
There is one small area roughly 2 square miles in size that houses the uber-rich in san jose. You'll see expensive cars, fast food restaurants and bars on every single opening at every single building. Armed guards protect every single home and apartment complex 24/7/365. It's sickening to see first hand.
I can't say enough horrible things about san jose. Between the crime, the poverty, the absolutely crumbling physical infrastructure, the crime, the filth and the crime - it ranks up there in Colin's list O' hell holes.
I would pick *ANY* other major city in Costa Rica, no sweat. Just not the god damned capital.
Next time we go back to CR, we're skipping San Jose completely. Outside of the city, you can have a great time, eat a great tipico or cansado, and enjoy the "pura vida" that is CR.
I absolutely love the country and hope to go back/move to in the near future - but mother
San Jose.

This holds true in the US as well.complacent wrote:I will go on record to say that San Jose is the single BIGGEST SHITHOLE I have evAr had the displeasure of visiting.
How did you know the bum's nationality? The highlight was this: In the span of ten minutes I slipped on a puddle of vomit the size of a sidewalk square (2ish feet sq?) and was then propositioned by a one-eyed Nicaraguan bum. And this was in the "nice" side of town.

Lolz! I over-did it a bit to emphasize my point. The place is really that big a steamer.
The bum introduced himself as a nicaraguan whilst propositioning me. unamused complacent was unamused.
