yesterday I installed Firefox 3 yesterday and was pleasantly surprised with the speed, even at the office with our crappy NMCI internets. I installed AdBlock and was just sort of checking things out when I realized I could actually get to my Gmail Inbox while at work. no chat functionality but I could read, respond and compose new messages.
fast forward to this morning: no more Gmail Inbox. I even tried removing myself from our proxy server, but no dice.
that said, I still really like Firefox and I'm now a convert.
I've been using it for a while at work, and its great, but i need my del.icio.us plugin!!!!
once they have that, I'll install it on all my personal computers

That's why you choose which tabs you want to reopen.
I like Firefox 3. I had been playing with it since like its third beta release and it does a lot of new things that I like. The main feature I like is the one that that if you start typing in a URL that's in your Bookmarks it'll fill in the rest of it for you. For someone, like me, who's bookmarked almost the whole internet and put things in folders and subfolders then can't where they put a website. This helps.
But, I also use a shit ton of extensions that haven't all caught up with Firefox 3 yet. So soon as they all catch up I'll switch over completely.

I was attempting to politely cover "The backbone team in a reeeeeely important five sided building reeeeeely doesn't like the persistent connections and has made issue of such." with the phrase "faux pas."
So under the guise of professional tranquility I've abstained from using browser sync.
Sounds like browser sync isn't going to be around much longer.... don't have the URL handy, but I heard that rumor

Bad news: I've had FF3 crash on me twice already in the last few days. Seems like it gets wigged out when you try to right-click, "Save Link as...". At least the first time you do that in a session. Once it restores you can continue on. Hope they fix that soon.

hmmm...haven't had that problem yet. I have been using it for two days now. Have you tried downloading again and reinstalling it...maybe there was somehow a glitch. What version OS are you running it on?

Google Browser Sync To Be Discontinued
Dude With An Afro writes "What could have been a great Google project is now history. For those who never used it, Google Browser Sync was a Firefox extension that synchronized your bookmarks, web history, browser sessions and passwords across multiple computers by temporarily saving them to Google's servers. According to the Google Browser Sync team: 'It was a tough call, but we decided to phase out support for Browser Sync. Since the team has moved on to other projects that are keeping them busy, we don't have time to update the extension to work with Firefox 3 or to continue to maintain it.' For all of those who fell in love with Google's Browser Sync, our only hope now is to resort to poorly maintained 3rd party extensions without Google's blessing."
While it was undoubtedly a useful utility, the argument can also be made that it wasn't the most secure extension in the world, what with having your personal data kept on Google's servers and shot around the internet.

Google Browser SyncGoogle may have decided to cease development of the Google Browser Sync plugin for Firefox, but that doesn't mean the utility will never see another update. Because rather than simply boxing up the source code and packing it away, Google decided to release the source code publicly under the BSD license.
Google Browser Sync is a utility that lets you synchronize your Firefox bookmarks, preferences, and cookies across multiple computers.
Now anyone can check out the source from the Google Code project page. While nobody's done anything really cool yet like make a version of Google Browser Sync that works with Firefox 3, it may just be a matter of time.
One thing that's particularly interesting is the fact that Ars Technica reports Google posted the source code online on June 13, the same day that Lifehacker confirmed the death of the official project. It's not clear which came first, the chicken or the egg. But either way, we're not complaining. If Google isn't going to continue developing this useful utility, then we're just glad that someone else may be able to pick up the torch.

Turns out it was an issue with the Sage RSS reader plug-in. They've released an update and all is well now. Move along, people. Nothing to see here!
