Infiniti G35

Post by Cereb Daithi »

I had to drive an Infiniti G35 at work for a while the other day. It was the RWD Coupe model. All I have to say is... I'm impressed... The V6 put out enough power to make it feel decently quick. I didn't test it out from a dig since I really didn't feel like taking chances with a car that didn't belong to me... but rolling acceleration on the highway was good. Nice wave of torque when you push the make-noise-pedal to the floor. It felt strange getting a much broader and smoother power curve instead of the kick in the pants I get from STis whenever boost hits. The ride was what sold me though. Amazingly smooth and comfortable. I didn't think anything of them at first but now that I've had a chance to spend some time behind the wheel I'm sold. Doesn't quite match up to subaru for me... but it's up there with my top manufacturers now.

Only complaint... you have to get the S model to get a 6-speed.

Ah while I was out in the Infiniti as well I got a chance to see the new Audi A5. Damn is it nice.

Only on the new models. My father drives a non "S" model 2006 G35 w/ 6spd. Very nice car w/ a great engine.

Just imagine what the thing could do if it weighed a proper amount for a car...

With 2 pax and luggage, your are pushing around 2 tons. that is 4000 lbs, 1800 kg.

the sucker weighs more than some light trucks. For that much weight, it had better be a smooth ride.

A G35 Coupe (or now G37) has always been on my short list of potential 'next cars', and it would pretty much be at the top of the list if they'd do a AWD... Yea, heavy as snot, but i'm not a street-racing-fool like most of you clowns.

now that Nissan is getting back on it's feet maybe the next VQ platform won't have to shared between the cars and SUVs. that's been my only issue with the 350Z and the G3x sedans: weight.

that V6 sounds great with the right exhaust and the Z and the G coupe look really good. 8)

I love the exhaust note of them too. Subaru's and them have been the only commodity cars with a very distinct exhaust note.

I don't know about the weight, the GT-R seems to handle just fine with a big butt... then again, it has the power to move it.

The GT-R only has like 300 more pounds on the 35 coupe, less for the sedan. Plus it is making almost double the torque. It had better move its ass.

That is just double the weight difference between the (Old  ) WRX sedan and wagon. We aren't talking much...

I stand corrected then. I haven't driven a 6-speed Infiniti yet. Also I'll probably be driving the new GT-R when we get them in in a bit. I'll definitely post pics and a review.

Yes, definitely post up! After I drove my father's G35, I was voraciously inspired to upgrade the suspension in my FXT. The G35 sedan is a great touring car...the 6spd is a bit of a pain in bumper to bumper if you are not used to driving it, though. Wish the G35X was a manual, though. :(

The SportShift is all you need. 5 Speed Auto is very slick and smart.
