nVidea and ATI drivers

Yo sabre, last time at D&B you were talking about an all in one nvidea and ati driver that you really liked. do you remember which one it is and whats the web adress? thanks!

mm should I uninstall the catalyst control center that is already on the computer? i installed the omega drivers and my computer seems the same lol. it seems that since i didnt uninstall the original ati drivers, they still load, but when i check which drivers my comp is using, it says omega..interesting.

You'll only really notice a difference in games... you should get a few more fps out of those

I know when I ran 3dMark, my scores went up 200 or so points just from changing to those drivers and I saw about 5-10fps more in games.

Can I install the Omega Drivers over the official drivers?
Yes, just make sure you remove the ATI Control Panel or CCC from the Windows Control Panel, Add/Remove programs before installing.

i should read before i do stuff

After tweaking and reading, it is running smooth. apparently, i had to actually use the older drivers cause my card isnt supported in the newer drivers

You can also go to http://www.guru3d.com to get the latest drivers, released or non-released.

Also, if you are doing an nv or ati choice, one thing to keep in mind is that with large amounts of ram, nvidia will perform better with repeated application loadings.

ATI doesn't let you enable large-system-cache, due to a driver limitation on file caching.

When you enable this, the OS will keep any file it opens buffered in ram, until that memory is needed for an application.

Sort of gets you ramdrive-like performance with repeated usage of the same applications/data.

edit : if you're worried about older drivers lingering around, just get a drive cleaner.

I'd actually recommend keeping ghost/acronis images of your OS drive, taken periodically, so you can roll-back to whenever. In case you find out that a certain driver nuked your computer.
