talk about your marvelous workarounds. google's latest version of their maps app for cell phones uses a cell signal to approximate your location. vzw's gps receiver crippling be damned!

Glad they are updating that software, it had some quirks to it... now only if my phone would actually install the app instead of showing me a binary...

Is that because of the smashed screen or did you get a new Ocean? Or using the iPhone from work instead?

Got a replacement Ocean, but for some reason it doesn't want to access the file right... :sigh:

I'll have to play with this when I get home. I don't have a way of connecting my phone to my computer here to do the install.

I think a lot of carriers are starting to use that type of service as well however I will still enjoy the BB 8800 w/ integrated GPS from Cingular.

the Ocean will use cell towers to triangulate it's position if it can't get a good GPS signal.

you don't need to do that. if you have innarwebs on your phone, go to
www.google.com/gmm for an ota download.
