VW R32s self imolating?

Post by Mr Kleen »

Brand new VW R32 catches on fire
Autoblog wrote:As a fellow GTI owner, I really feel for this guy. A South Florida owner of a brand new 2008 Volkswagen R32 walked out of work and found that his car, which had been turned off and parked for six hours, had set itself on fire. The flames started in the driver's side dash, grew to the door and roof, and melted a hole in the windshield. According to the thread, this isn't the first R32 to do so either. Can you smell a recall coming, or is that just the smoke?

Weelllll... not exactly. But there are eery similarities to that video of a GTI fire that made the rounds on teh innArwebn3ts a few years ago. In that one I think an oil line (located right above the turbo) leaked and the spill ignited.

But in this Autoblog story the guy's car was parked for six hours so I can't imagine an oil leak caught fire.

different situation: that was a modified VW that caught fire while being driven and was a turbo I4. The R32 uses an NA V6.

I like VW's but man their quality has taken a hit in the past few years...

It is the curse of moving the HQ to DC.

VW have always been prone to electrical problems...modded or not.

VWs look pretty but I will NEVER own one.
