2008 Chevy Corvette

Post by Libra Monkee »

You know, I still have a place in my heart for Corvettes. I was my first crush as far as cars are concerned. But there's something off about this new model that's just not doing it for me. I mean, the power has increased since the last base model Corvette that came out in '05. The 6.2L small-block is giving it 436BHP. They've also lightened it slightly and added paddle shifters for the automatic model.

The exterior styling hasn't change much since '05. I think it might be the interior that that's hitting the sour note with me. It's very... .... GM! There is the 6.5" LCD navigation screen and lighted knob controls. IMHO for this being Chevy's TOTL consumer vehicle the controls and styling of the inside just seems a bit bland. Not too different from sitting behind the wheel of a G6 or a Grand Am.

But don't take my word for it, see for yourself.

the center console is a bit plane. I wouldn't order the GM Nav unit, i'd get an aftermarket. other than that I love the new Vette. I'd but one in a heartbeat if I had the cash.

DOH! no pun intended... :x

I also found it interesting that Top Gear recommended the regular C6 over the "Zed Oh Six" if you were going to use it as a road car.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they call it the Stingray. Corvette SS sounds cheesy to me. and PLEASE GM, don't call it blue devil. it's built in Kentucky!

The BD should be a VERY interesting car, that is for sure :) I've always had a spot in my heart for that and the Viper (ok, more so the Viper).

Good choice putting $4,000 rims on your 1990 Honda Civic. That's like Betty White going out and getting her tits done.

augh! that interior looks like every other amercian car interior with just a little more tech added. if they want to make their interior better: big flat panels with square symmetrical buttons and huge empty spaces with boxy aircon looking slats are not the way to do it.

Why is it that GM can never get plastics "right"? They always look too ... plastic-ky. A lot of other manufacturers are able to make their plastic bits look expensive. GM manages to make their plastic look cheap and tacky.

Of course, the body-color armrest and airbag cover don't help.
