Bottom line: Apple and EMI just announced a joint venture to offer 256Kbps DRM-free AAC music from the iTunes store. The songs will be a $1.29 each and the service is set to start in May. You can also update current EMI songs for 30¢ each. However this deal does NOT included anything by The Beatles.

But then again ... it is the first business day after April 1st. Could this be Steve Jobs pulling our leg?

I thought that at first too but there's a 50min long press conference about it. Pretty elaborate for a hoax.
