I've essentially fallen off the face of the earth. Sunday evening I came down with a high fever (over 102) and it cycled between 104 and 100 for the next four days (still have it). Only just now able to get to my computer to check my usual websites.

Now I think I have to break down and actually go to a doctor. Hopefully I can make it to the next meet.

<Homer Simpson>Mmmm ... corn-flavored goooo ...</Homer Simpson>

Thanks everyone. The advice is paying off. Slowly but surely the fever has been lowering. Now it peaks out between 100 and 101 each day. Not great, but liveable. And of course, the trip to the doctors went something like this:

Appointment at 2:30pm - get there at 2:20pm
Fill out paperwork
2:50pm
Fill out more paperwork
...
3:30pm (alternately burning and shaking)
...
3:50pm - In to see the doc- nope, first it's the nurse. Asked all the same questions that I answered in the paperwork.
4:00pm - Now it's the doctor's turn. Asked all the same questions that I answered in the paperwork ... AND with the nurse. Advises me it's probably some virus and I should just drink plenty of fluids, get lots of rest and take some Tylenol or Advil. Doc: "Btw, have you ever had mono?" Me: "Huh? Uh, no." Doc: "Take this to the lab to get blood drawn. They're open 'til 5pm."
4:15pm - Pay $20 co-pay for advice I got for free from DCAWD (not to mention whatever they charge the insurance company).
4:20pm - Get to lab ... which actually closes at 4pm, not 5pm.

Anyway, it was open Saturday morning so that's all done, but my point is the idiocy of the medical insurance racket and all the crap you have to go through just to see a doctor. Let alone the wisdom of paying $20 for advice that we already know.

Oh well, ... </rant>
