Mini AWD... 2008!!

Post by ElZorro »

Following earlier rumors of an off-roading MINI Colorado, reports are surfacing that parent company BMW is preparing to offer all-wheel-drive on the full MINI range by 2008. The rumors stem from this week's edition of the German weekly Auto Motor und Sport, which stated that the upcoming stretched-out MINI Traveller/Clubman will be available with all-wheel drive, but that the feature would be extended to the entire Mini range – presumably including the hard-top, convertible and Clubman models – sometime in 2008.

The reports haven't been confirmed at this point, but the idea of an all-wheel-drive MINI is making us salivate already. All the more so if BMW were to enter the MINI in rally competitions. The Mitsubishi Lancer Evo and Subaru Impreza WRX STi may be getting new duds, but with all-wheel-drive hatch as stylish as the MINI presents a compelling case.

I know you've been lusting after this for a few years now (ever since the rumors started). But you realize that it'll be tough to carry the kids around in a Mini, right? :)

Alan, you've heard about this recent invention called 'roof racks' right?

I think the concept is awesome...

BUT, You can fit two people and two bags of groceries in that thing. I'm also curious to see what they mean by "stretched out" Clubman model means.

the original clubman was cool, hopefully this one will be too. considering how well they've done with the Mini so far I think it will be. the slightly longer wheel base should help with stability. the question on my mind: how much reliable, streetable power can the drive train put down?

Very cool news. There is a guy here in Hernando (Dan) that comes to the NASIOC lunches every week with his Mini (He use to have a LGT). It's been very cool to hear about how he's been modding it. I wonder what the sticker price will be!

Saw Dan out in Leesburg the other day, pulled up behind me at a light and waved. :)
