Good find but I would be extra cautious from this:

"OEM Trailer Hitch"

What exactly was he pulling? How much weight? Is he having problems w/ his tranny now and deciding to sell it off real quick so that he doesn't have to shell off the cost for fixing it since SOA will deny his claim?

I don't care to b/c I am not shopping for an STi. I am just throwing out to the members what caught my attention so that they can inquire about it. But thanks for posting the for sale thread link. :D

Yeah, you gotta watch out for those bastards with those punk-assed trailer hitches.

Oh, wait.... I have a trailer hitch.

Since the STi is not an automatic, hauling a heavy load will place strain on the clutch and the engine more than killing the gearbox. Shocking the gears by slam-shifting and clutch dumping is what will kill an OEM manual trans. I haven't looked, but I havn't heard of too many stock STi blocks killing a 6-speed because of too hing of an output.

Hauling heavy loads with an automatic will shorten the life of the torque converter and valves. On a manual, you are either in gear, on the clutch, or out of gear. When you are in gear and hauling, it is just like accelerating when you drive hard. If you take care in shifting, your trans can last a long time, even if you place a higher load on the engine through the transmission.

So you are saying that towing can not effect the gears and/or differential(s) at all? Wow, guess I had it wrong.

Yes Will, that is exactly what I said

Tell you what, take out some of your trans fluid and some out of his, send it out for analysis and we will see whose transmission has been beaten on more...

Look, I am just looking out for anyone who was interested in this vehicle. I am not saying that the persons car is or isn't messed up. I am just saying to be careful. Some people just don't follow formulas and limits for doing stuff. Don't want to spend a good dollar on something that you would end up getting fixed. They could also change out the tranny fluid right before selling so that analysis could be skewed. Just ignore what I say and buy the car.
