There was a big article in the Subiesport mag (forget which month it was last year) but they show the full line up and the SpecB models have the mesh grill which looks a lot better.

I actually like the new nose better and just prefer the mesh to the wing grill.

not sure about the vents in the rear bumper but the nose looks good, much better than the Impreza. it needs to be lowered with that front lip IMHO.

It looks an awful lot like an A4 to me. Now if only it came with a beefy V8 and canary yellow...

(I saw my first RS4 on the road today in Reston. It was tres hot)

I'm a huge fan of the S4 and an even bigger fan of the RS4. However, I am also the official DCAWD Bang for the Buck Spokesperson, and as such I have to point out that a lightly modded LGT will hand the S4 it's ass on a platter and a well modded LGT could easily give the RS4 a run for it's money for significantly less coin.

S4: $47,500 (base)
340 bhp / 302 ftlb
0-60: 5.0
1/4 mile: 13.6@103 mph
70-0: 168
300-ft-dia Skidpad: 0.85 g
Slalom: 68 mph

Stock Legacy GT Spec-B: $34,000 (base)
250 bhp / 250 ftlbs
Zero to 60 mph: 5.2 sec
1/4-mile: 14.0 sec @ 98 mph
70–0 mph: 173 ft
300-ft-dia Skidpad: 0.87 g
Slalom: 67.8 mph

The Stock LGT-spec B is nearly a match for the S4 out of the box. As far as handleing and braking go, I'd say it was a push.

You need only look at one of our own member's power numbers to get an idea of how easily a lightly modded LGT would out-perform an S4:
2006 Legacy GT (manual).
Mods list:
1-piece header/up-pipe combo ($150)
Stromung downpipe ($189)
(Stock midpipe)
Borla cat-back ($549)
K&N Typhoon intake ($216)
Cobb AP Stage II ($550 at least when he got it)

output: 257 whp / 288 ftlbs.
stock LGT: 190 whp / 220ftlbs. (on same dynojet)

With gains of over 60 whp and 60 ftlbs of torque (for just under $1,600 mind you) you can be sure that no stock S4 could touch him in a straight line. I'm also certain that he would put down close to 300 whp and 320 ftlbs with a good tune.

Now, let's look at the RS4:
RS4: $66,000 (base)
420 bhp / 317 ftlb (only 15 more ftlbs)
0-60: 4.6
1/4 mile: 13.2@107 mph
70-0: 163 (same as S4)
300-ft-dia Skidpad: 0.87 g (slightly better than S4)
Slalom: 68 mph (same as S4)

So, what your really getting for the extra $20K is .4 seconds quicker 0-60 and in the 1/4 mile with +4 mph trap speed. At least as far as raw numbers go.

What do you think it would take to get a LGT to those numbers?
Actually, we already know. A post on NASIOC had a dyno graph of an LGT with:
TD06 18G ($1,450)
Perrin TMIC ($730)
Zerosports Header and Uppipe
TXS Downpipe catless
stock cat back
stock boost selenoid
323 whp / 355 ftlbs (also on a dynojet) and ran the 1/4 in 12.8 at 108mph

Again, I love the S4, and I really love the RS4 and yes, the LGT is no S4 or RS4. But, it is hard to argue with the data.

As for the Carary yellow or "Imola Yellow" as audi calls it.
I'm afraid I'm one who believes in the "Curse of the Yellow Car!"

I like the LGT interior but the Audi is nicer, so you're getting that for the extra coin.

but bang for buck it's hard to go wrong with an LGT and basic mods. if I were in the market for a new car today I would go for the LGT over the Impreza if I could swing it.

If your willing to hunt and haggle, you can find new LGTs for under $25K.
My brother-in-law did.

I think we'll both agree that there's only one correct answer to your (correct) reply. I'll explain it as an anecdote.

I have a friend whose family is into lambos and other expensive beasts I can't afford. He and I talk a lot about various car projects as he's one of the few people I know who really understands going fast (as opposed to looking good; we're both from San Diego, and the standard in socal is rice, not speed). About a year ago, when I finally started hashing out plans for my Z, I sent him an email with the list of stuff I was planning on, what it cost, what each item achieved, et cetera. He replied, going through the list, and giving me his opinion of each item. At the end, he says to me, "Alex, all this stuff is reasonable, given the platform, but why on earth are you starting with a 280ZX? I mean, you wouldn't have to stiffen the chassis or swap in a different motor if you started with a car that was more appropriate to the task." (the task being sub-11 second quarters, and top speed between 190-200mph)

I had thought the answer to the question was obvious, and was kind of surprised he didn't get it. I replied and said "Well, I first built this car when I was 17. I'm now 30. It's a car that inflames my loins and makes me happy just to look at, and I'm also not afraid to admit it's a desperate stab at being a teenager again."

Steve entirely agreed with me. The point of this being, an LGT might be just as fast as an RS4 (in fact, I would hope it was) given the same dollar amount. But a canary yellow RS4 is something I would very much love to own. Just like a Carrera 4S (I could even carry this further and say that I'd prefer a Monster over a Hayabusa, despite the price-to-performance ratio of the Busa). In fact, just like our STI before we got it. I'm very pleased with it, but it doesn't excite me as much (right now) as an RB26 powered 280ZX putting down ten second quarters. :)

I think part of the lure of the LGT is that it doesn't call attention to it's self or do much to the loins, until they're strapped in...

(i really want to see the 280ZX once you get well into it)
