H-6 turbo Legacy & Crawford engine goes boom

Post by zaxrex »

I picked up the SSC for the USCC and saw that ther was a Legacy with STi hood scoop. The article announced that this was a boosted prototype of the engine from the Tribeca. >>300hp in corrent 3L displacement, but ther is also rumors of a 3.6L low CR block. If Julian waits around long enough, he might get this boosted 6-cyl in his car for less than $10K.

Also, in an amazing chance of fate, Quirt Crawfords monster 2.7 Crawford block took a dump the night before the USCC event. He replaced it with a stock block, and still managed to come in 2nd (3rd if the Beetle didn't brake an axel). 445hp and 405 FtLb on a stock block and head setup? Oh that's right, GT35R...

Whatever the actual cause was, it wasn't failure from not checking piston-cyl clearances... and if it was, maybe this high publicity failure will change some business practices.

Hmmm, probably a little late for me to get in on a H6, but I would love to have done it! 3.6L H6? God, imagine the possibilities...

If Bruce's failure didn't kill Crawford, this probably won't either... I hope he get's the convicts out of his shop and start building quality motors at some point again.

Good choice putting $4,000 rims on your 1990 Honda Civic. That's like Betty White going out and getting her tits done.

The main reason that crawford is still running is the fact that people respect their HP and STILL buy their products. They keep claiming all this shit about their HP. when i read the article i was like ONLY 400hp? wtf? i didnt read the whoel thing about it being a stock block.

Still, their racing keeps them alive.
