difference in Blizzak models?
Subydude is having a sale on Rota wheels (a set of 17" D2s for $500 if memory serves) that got me thinking... (oh no, here we go)
I normally use my 17x7.5 rota wheels for summer use and swap to the stock wheels with the stock RE92s for winter. I'm contemplating getting a set of winter tires for the old Rotas and ditching the stock wheels entirely. that way I have a killer set of tires for every season and I can stay fashionable with nice 17" wheels year round. this would also enable me to go with a BBK at some point in the future that requires 17" to fit.
my question is: what is the difference between the Blizzak LM-22 & LM-25; and is it worth it to trade some dry traction/performance for the uber-snow Blizzak REVO1 model?

From what i have heard, and I'm no expert, but any blizzak is WAY too much tire for the NOVA area.... but i have never used them.

I *just* put my blizzaks on last night... can't wait to test them
too much tire... I LOVE the sound of that. Sounds perfect. I'll let you know if it's too much tire next time I make a weekend trip up north for snowboarding.
Jason:
There are a few companies that make a BBK that will fit behind 16" wheels.
just fyi...
linky uno
linky dos
i also know TWR makes a bbk that fits under 16" wheels too. i have not seen a SINGLE bad comment about the TWR kit... worth looking into, it was going to be the choice for my wrx before i sold it.
TWR bad arse brake kit
my thought is get a dedicated set of 16's or 17's with summer only tires, keep teh blizzaks on teh stockers. then you've got the best of both worlds. i will never ever again own "all season" tires. i'm definitely a two set of rims kinda guy from now on.
just my .02usd
hope this helps.

I'm going through my choices right now... Jason and Colin make EXCELLENT cases for the WS-50's, that is for sure! Take a look at the review by TireRack here and here. Decisions, decisions...

Back in the old days, Julian was following me on the inner loop Van Dorn exit. I had my LM-22s on in the dry but it was cool. The grip was very solid with a progressive adhesion limit. One of the few winter performance tires that can be H speed rated. For the three weeks at most out of the year when there is snow on the ground, these do the trick. They don't have the highest snow and ice tractin ratings, but they can hold a curve better than any other similar cost winter specific tire I would bet.
If I had my old HD running, I would post pics up where I went playing around in a parking lot. I had to try to get the thing to brake loose on the 3" of snow. I had packed the wheel wells and rotor area so full of snow from sliding sideways that the brakes couldn't decide if they were going to work or not.

but they make even BETTER brakes for 17" wheels, so I must have 17" year round!TRW wrote:For the exteme racer or track addict, we also have a 6 piston kit. The rotors are 332mmx30mm, and include all the great advantanges as our other kits. This kit requires 17" rims.

Well, I ordered the WS-50's, but they are out of them for the rest of the season (unless I wanted to pay double the shipping to have them come from CO.) I ordered the REVO 1's in their place and they should be at home tomorrow, w00t! I guess I'll be the guinnepig this time around!

Looks like it would be around $28/tire though. Most places seem to charge around $20. Anyone have any good/bad experiences around the area?

The cheap places around here use the radial claws to hold the wheel while the tire is being put on. Fine for steel, by puts big teeth marks on your wheel if they are mag/alloy.
Also, not so important for winter tires/speeds, but the road force balancing can really be felt at the higher speeds.
Me not having to take an hour out of my day is worth the extra $30.

Wow this is the exact internal debate I'm having right now! I know I'm going with a Blizzak model but, I'm to decide if I should be thrifty and go with the REVO 1's, spend a tad extra cash and go with the LM-25 with the HR rating, or spend more money and go with the LM-25 with the VR rating.
Even though I don't think I'll be going that fast especially in the snow (or lack there of).
They're all pretty comparable with each other. Maybe about 0.4 difference according to the survey. Plus they're cheaper than the LM-22's.
Oh the desicision's a man must make. I'm out for a smoke.

Alright after doing some figuring the REVO's are out because they're only rated up to 99mph. With my "spirited" driving that rating is not sitting right with me. The LM-25/VR's are out because I don't think I'll be going 149 on winter tires. I considered the Continental ContiWinter Contacts however, the LM-25/HR's are rated higher by customer review. Plus, they come with a $50 rebate which makes them cheaper than the Continental's.
So it's the Blizzak LM-25/HR for teh winnar.
