Quick question

Post by Cereb Daithi »

alright well as many of you know, i only recently got interested in the japanese car market... more specifically subaru.. so there are still a few things im curious about... from time to time these questions bug me and i just figured i might as well get them all answered

first of all... I'm familiar with all the american models... with the exception of one thing.. the 2003 model... I've seen people say the bugeyes were 2003s...and then people say the newer 04-05 body style were 03s... i google searched it and i found pics of both body styles labled 2003...

next..the overseas models... i've seen mention of Type RA and Spec C.... are these just fancy model names or they some category such as Group N or something? and are there any other versions (i already know about the S203 S204 etc.)

those two things have been on my mind and well..what better place to have them answered

Take a look here. The 2003 model is the bugeye, from 2004-2005 it changed and then it changed again in 2006. Sounds like in 2008, it's going to change once again. This is commonly referred to as the "Subaru idenity problem", haha.

The Type RA and C are just like we have WRX's that are TR, "Regular" and STI.

I actually have a book on the Impreza history. Pretty good read and it explains all of this. I'll see if I can get the ISBN number for you tonight.

Hold on there kimosabe, you might want to read your book some. The TR and regulat WRX are nowhere near the same thing as the RA and Spec C designators. The TR is mechanically the same as the WRX, while the engine internals, cams, ports, valves and transmissions of the RA and Spec C are completely different than the other WRX designators in the same casis code.

IIRC WRX<WRX STi<WRX STi RA<STi Spec C <<< 22-B :bowd:

EDIT: OK Spec C < RA

Sorry, didn't mean to say that they were the same thing, I just meant to say that they were different versions of the same car ;) Sort of like the WRX and the STI. Same car, but different... makes me think of an asperin commercial, haha.

If you wouldn't still mind posting that ISBN, I'd like to check out that book.

actually no. its sort of like the holy grail for impreza owners. you know it when you see it. keep your eyes peeled... its not even really a book as much as it is a place of knowledge.. it does not have physical form, rather it is a glowing floating square of light. some spend years trying to find it, however once you do, you truly reach impeza paradise.

GOOD LUCK!

ok so i dont know the name...

but IIRC....

ISBN 1-903706-26-2

dont take that as being positive.. the cover of that book looks right... i think...
