Turbo back exhause needed
Ok,
after putsing around and most likely annoying hotsam.
Ive decided I really like the single pipe look instead of the twin tip exhausts ive been seeing lately.
I would really like to put together a turbo back exhaust system using the borla catback exhaust at the end. What parts do i need from there to the turbo? any recommendations?

I got a Bosal DP. it's a "shorty" downpipe that keeps the factory midpipe and WRX 3rd cat. I also have a Bosal UP. they *should* be installed this weekend. and I have a temp-loan STi muffler until I can find a good [used] exhaust that won't earn me tickets...
SubieDude has a good exhaust graphic on the exhaust pages, really breaks everything down and names all the components.

Get the Stromung downpipe and midpipe....that will work nicely.

I'd make it easy on yourself and just pick-up the Stromung DP and keep your stock cat in place. You'll need to have a donut gasket to use the Borla (unless you want to buy a slip-fit flange for $50 from www.daddysscp.com). With the Stromung dp going for around $200 that's well worth the price. The mid-pipe with the cat is nearly $400, and it still will neck down to 2.5 for the donut anyway. Yes the stromung is a metal substrate, but I doubt you'll gain any more than a few whp from it. You'll get a CEL for a Cat inefficeincy error either way, but that can be defeated either mechanicly or electronicly. Since your car's low milage, I don't think you'll need need gaskets either.
Your next stop should be EM! There are lots of options. Think hard on this, and talk to a lot of people. Where do you want to be? 500 WHP with various maps for race gas, pump gas and "bad" gas? Or maybe 300whp with no hassles is what your looking for?
Let's gab a bit on Wednesday.

Sure!!
sounds good.
I think im goign to be aiming for 400 whp in the end with a really good sound, yet remain "legal" in all ways possible.

Legal is a very loose term in car modifications. Buy removing any functioning cat you are technically "illegal." That being said, I have never heard of a street-side emissions test in VA. If you pass emissions, you'll be fine.Tom Sullivan wrote: I think im goign to be aiming for 400 whp in the end with a really good sound, yet remain "legal" in all ways possible.
For 400 whp you'll need the following:
EM (UTEC, ECUTEK, ect.)
TBE (turbo-back exhaust) with 1 high-flow cat. There are many choices here.
Bigger turbo (FP Green/Red, SuperZilla 49-53, Garrett GT 30/35R, ect)
750-850 cc injectors (modified stocks work fine)
fuel pump (walbro or otherwise)
Big TMIC or FMIC (top mount intercooler or front mount intercooler)
Headers wouldn't hurt either (GT_Spec, Gruppe-S, Borla, MacDad, ect)

Here's the pricing you asked for:
Stromung Downpip: $185, w/cat: $339
Borla STi Exhaust (single tip): $499.99
Stromung 3" Secondary pipe: $219, $349 w/cat
Those are regular prices, I'm thinking of doing a regular discount for DCAWD guys.
400WHP isn't unrealistic. Find a good tuner and research your EM choices.

Add on top of that the VA laws that say (depending on who you talk to) either you can't change from the OEM or you can't make it louder.drwrx wrote:Legal is a very loose term in car modifications. I understand that making everythign perfectly legal is relatively impossible, but making it as legal as possible is definately my aim. And if it can pass emissions, thats what im looking for.
And im a fan of the Borla headers. If I can go with as much Borla as possible thats what im going to do. My father was a fan of Borla for his Corvette and Borla is made in the good ol US of A.
now, would that make a Full 3" turbo back exhause? any restriction in size would for all intensive purposes make it useless.
A special price would be awesome. If you ut me good enough of a deal ill even run Vinyl and stickers on my car and pass out business cards for your business. Ill be going to shows for this dedicated build, so its win win for anyone.

Ideally you would like the entire TBE to be 3" with no reductions.
A shorty down pipe will reduce to 2.5" to meet the mid/cat pipe. I believe Stromung makes their downpipe/midpipe combo in a 3" variety w/o any restriction. You would still need a flat flange adapter for the borla cat-back. There are many options. You may want to do some research, and talk to some folks before you make your final purchase.
The borla headers are my current favorite as well: $327, coated, and a 1,000,000 mile warranty with an average improvement of 15whp and 18ftlbs with lower EGTs, what's not to love.
