R.I.P. Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3)

Post by Libra Monkee »

Yep E3 has been cancelled for next year and forevermore. Sad, I was actually going to go next year.

The thrill is gone.

Good choice putting $4,000 rims on your 1990 Honda Civic. That's like Betty White going out and getting her tits done.

Now they're saying it's not cancelled. Just that ...
Over the years, it has become clear that we need a more intimate program, including higher quality, more personal dialogue with the worldwide media, developers, retailers and other key industry audiences...
"...a more intimate program..."? Sounds like spin-doctoring to me.

budgets are getting tight, the big players were tired of spending millions on booth babes for the mouth-breathers that attended E3. now they can focus on kissing the right asses in the "real" gaming press.

makes no difference to me, I never got to go nor had any real intentions of going any time soon.

According to ESA, there are several other large expo's (Tokyo and Germany come to mind) and several major publishers hold their own product announcements anyway so their member studios and publishers don't see any reason to spend ludicrous amounts of cash on an expo where they are essentially subsidizing their competitors.

Oh well ...

I still wonder what "more intimate program" means.

maybe the idiots would "get more exposure" if they let more than just game industry people and TV shows in... there would be hundreds of thousands of gamers that owuld pay alot of money to go. and they would be there for the games THEY want. i had quite a few friends go that work for blizzard enertainment and wizkids and admission anymore is pretty much invite only
