Video games

Post by Cereb Daithi »

I dunno. After reading the transformers thing about childhood memories, I suddenly started feeling nostaligc and decided to type this out as i think back to video games.... i feel incredibly geeky and pathetic admitting it.. bt when i think back.. video games have provided some of my strongest most memoriable moments in life... it's sad but true... but for the hell of it here is my list of my most memorable games fromt childhood (and a few not so old ones) in no particualr order and just because i have nothing better to do until my girl gets back from the bank.

Gunstar Heros - still say its one of the best games ever made... insane mindless destruction

Mechwarrior (pre 4) - still fun as hell. its a shame microsoft ruined it

Zelda - who can't love zelda... and i still LOVE the N64 releases

Blast Corps - comon you blow stuff up with big machines.. how could that ever get old?

Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind - I still play that to this day. the game that holds the record for the most number of hours i've spent playing it

Shenmue Series - possibly the only 2 games i've ever played that have been so engrossing that they have literally pwnd my grades.. the game made you really feel like i was living another life

Jet Grind/Set Radio - Two of the most styleish games i've ever seen... almost always cheers me up when i play. soundtracks were cool as hell

Command and Conquer - RTS goodness

Warcraft - Before the pop-culture-plague that is WoW... there was happiness and RTS joy

Half-Life - the original one was better.... get over it

Red Faction - *misses Geo-Mod*... awesome presentation and story-line

i think thats it.. i duno

but to counteract taht... pop culture games that i think are grossly overrated

Halo - .... fairly standard FPS....
Final Fantasy - dont get me started
Grand Theft Auto (ok it is a fun game though)- too hyped
Any Sports Game - *vomit*
Mario - the game was good... its not gaming nirvana like people say though
World of Warcraft - good enough game... was fun until EVERYONE ON THE PLANET started playing... now i dont play anymore becuase every time i heard it mentioned by some random kid in public i felt like a dirty groupie .....and i missed having a life

Oh God here we go! He's done got me started. :) I'll try to take it easy (for now) and just name one from each system.

Mr. Do (Colecovision)- One of the first games I can remember playing (and understanding the concept)

Reactor (Atari 2600)- To this day I don't understand the object of this game but it has cool music.

Contra (NES)- Since Zelda and Mario were already mentioned I had to bring out this game. Do you remember the code?

Phantasy Star Series(Master System, Genesis)- Besides Final Fantasy it's the best RPG series I've ever played.

Street Fighter II (Arcade)- This and cheesesteaks is where all my allowance went.

Secret of Mana (SNES)- It was hard to pick just one for this console but I bought this game three times because people kept stealing it.

Streets of Rage Series (Genesis)- The first Side scolling beat'em up to hold my attention for more than a minute.

Ys Book I & II (TurboGrafx CD/ TurboDuo)- One of the first games I played that came on a CD, had voice acted cut scenes, and music played with actual instruments.

Night Trap (Sega CD)- This game is up here because it's the one that started all the controversy that ultimately lead to the ESRB.

Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? (Macintosh)- Yes I was a member of my school's library club just so i could have first dibs at this game.

Battle Chess (Tandy)- THE ROOK JUST ATE MY QUEEN!!!

Chrono Cross (PlayStation)- Since Final Fantasy was already mentioned this is the other PS1 game that I still play.

Sega Rally Champoinship II (Dreamcast)- Not only was this the first time I saw the Impreza it was a damn good rally game and I'm still looking for it.

-------------
Not getting into the modern systems those are about 0.274389% of the games the made me who I am today. None of them too overrated however the "scantily clad" women in Night Trap thing kinda got out of control. Damn Lieberman!

I wasted many hours at my buddy Ian's place playing Altered Beast on the Sega. I never got very good at it. might have had something to do with the drinking...

And it worked for TMNT... basically all of the Konomi games (I heard it called the Konomi code). Except Life Force (Gradius sequal), it caused you to die instantly.

Thumbs up for Final Fantasy, Secret of Mana, Mechwarrior, Battle Chess... plus check out Anacreon (turn based strategy, old school was written in Pascal in DOS, someone re-wrote it in Windows), Might & Magic, Wizardry, Chuck Yeager Flight, Falcon, Privateer, XCOM...

IIRC, that was a 2 player game and you could steal the other's life when you ran out of them or am I thinking another game?

Nah, it was a side-scroller space game on the SNES.

Yea, one of the codes from Wolfenstien did that in Doom. IDKFA and IDDQD for the win!

I remember picking up and playing Gran turismo when it first came out. It literally changed my life.......

Final Fantasy 7 when Areis (sp??) dies by Sephorath (sp??) is still one of the saddest moments in my childhood.

I live for halo on xbox live now.
