Vista Beta 2 has Major Problems

Post by Sabre »

Shamelessly stolen from /. Full article here.

"Installing Vista Beta 2, for me was one of the worst operating system experiences that I’ve ever encountered."

"It took me days to install a working version on a new Lenovo ThinkPad X60 laptop with 2GB of memory and all sorts of built-in wireless networking." <<<< Slow learner...

"Beta 2 is a good looking operating system with a number of new features, which will be familiar to you if you’ve played with recent versions of Apple’s OS X."
:lol2:

Honestly, the guy seems like a bit of a mornon.... but if he's having troubles, so will average joe unless stuff improves.

Yea, I was surprised he was not modded down as flamebait... I'm sure it's going to be pretty solid. The way they've been writing about the locking down of privilege escalation sounds promising...

I've corssed them before with them. Last I heard, it wasn't going to have WinFS either... Duh!

truth. but i've got an awful tough time believing they would turn an OS loose that was not at least "somewhat" up to par with today's usability and security issues. i'm not expecting it to be the kewl0r-ist thing ever, i don't think it will r0xx0r my b0xx0rz or anything like that - but it will more than likely be the default desktop OS for the next 5 years in a corporate environment. i hope it will be stable enough to maintain uptime in the workplace and i reeeely hope that it can be secured reasonably well. i don't want to have to ghost the shit out of these new images every six months just because it is easier than tracking down/removing virii and malware and such.

no WinFS? but of course! i wouldn't expect any less out of them. m$ is pretty good about announcing "features" that remain vaporware for evAr. i've always maintained a "i'll believe it when i see it" attitude regarding their products. there's even a rumor that vista will have an honest to god actual shell in the final release.... dunno...

Ya, WSH was released awhile ago, but I hadn't heard that it would be included by default with Vista. Definitely would be nice if it was!

i don't see it being adopted by large networks for awhile, especially corporate ones. they'll look at the bottom line before they worry about having the latest and greatest secure o.s. and many of them are happy enough with 2000/xp as the desktop client. besides, aren't the hardware requirements for vista a bit beefy for beancounting corporations (at least, right now)?

DoED is getting ready for an XP rollout the end of this year IIRC.

Vista will be released in different "flavors" so the corporate folks won't have to get smokin' PCs (since they won't care about all the fancy "Aero Glass" effects).

But yes, corporate clients will likely wait. Our organization is still using Win 2000. I don't see this changing anytime soon.

NASA was rolling out XP when I left (July 2k5). Some might say that upgrading to a more "secure" OS will save them money, but it's one of those things that is hard to quantify. Corp. are traditionally slow in adopting this kind of stuff though.

Need I ask again when we are going to hold DCAWD classes?

P.S. I know you're busy with your other classes, so no biggie.
