Acura RSX to be Discontinued

Acura RSX Coupe Scheduled for Oblivion

May 2006

Acura will discontinue the RSX coupe at the end of the 2006 model year, according to an Automotive News report.

Elimination of the RSX, Acura's least expensive vehicle by about $8,000, "looks like part of Acura's long-term plan to move upscale and separate from sibling brand Honda," Automotive News said.

To replace the RSX, Acura will add a coupe version of the TSX, Automotive News said, citing some Acura dealers.

The RSX was introduced in 2002 and freshened in the 2004 model year. U.S. sales fell 10.6 percent the first three months of this year, to 4,150 units.
What shall all the ricers turn to once this is gone? I predict an even greater flood of riced-up Civics.

I can see that happening, as well as the grassroots motorsports leagues running into problems. The RSX is a pretty potent package (it was often compared to the WRX during their releases) and has a lot to offer for the "bugdet racer".

Not really sure how I feel about this one.... hrmph.

It's about time  ...it actually isn't a bad car when you add a turbo, redo suspension, add completely new body kit, spoiler and grill. It is actually a decent car.

now that the Civic Si is moving up in performance it was starting to pressure the RSX (Integra). It's a little sad to see it go, but I'm not really into front wheel drive any more. perhaps now the US will get the Civic Type R. not that there is a shortage of Type R badges on Hondas in the US...

Hmm, Civic Type-R... I actually like the look of the new Si alot. It's a shame to see the RSX go though :(

Good choice putting $4,000 rims on your 1990 Honda Civic. That's like Betty White going out and getting her tits done.

when they announced the specs for the new Si, that it was going to be equipped with an LSD, I knew the RSX was in trouble.

IIRC the ITR was the only FWD USDM Honda with an LSD.

ahhh Alphabet Soup...

now I want Honda to stretch the S2k platform enough to make it a 2+2 hardtop coupe and call it the Prelude.

Basically, the thing to do was drop the RSX Type-S engine into the new civic Si engine bay. Same horsepower but a huge increase in needed torque.

I really like the new Si but if is was w/ the SAWD found in the Acura RL and w/ the acura RL engine it would be perfect okay maybe not need a better interior and better suspension brakes but after that perfect. Okay I can't think straight...going to Red Robin.

But if we are going in this direction I would prefer the new EVO concept platform.
