75 is a good deal IF it includes all of the up-pipe studs. Those stubborn little bastards are worth 50 in labor easy... even to a pro installer.

DC Sports makes good quality stuff, so long as you get the aforementioned studs it sounds like a good deal.

time to start shopping for a DP and EM.

EM is already in the works... Cobb Accessport. I've been talking to Sam about it (then comes the harder part... breaking the news to the wife). And dont sweat it Julian, I'm sure we'll figure some time to get it done. What will we need to install besides wrenches, gloves (since you already warned that the heat shield is sharpened by evil little Japanese fabricators) etc.. I assume a set of ramps or jack stands, I've got a creeper already as well.

And of course beer, food etc...

That's pretty much it. I've done it in 2 hours, but you might want to give yourself more time (My first time took 4 hours). I'd plan a week ahead of time, post up a place you want to do it (or come to one of our install days) and we'll help ya out.

PB Blaster is your friend. you can find it at most any auto parts store. the best bet is to park the car where you're going to do the work, let it cool down, hit all the bolts with the PB Blaster, let it sit over night, wake up and hit the bolts again with the PB, then go to it. might want to have new gaskets. usually not necessary on a newer car but not a bad idea once you're in there. I also recommend using some anti-seize on the bolts. you never know when you'll have to pull it off again.

Uppipe Update

Post by GeneralGrievous »

Ok stage 1/day 1 of uppipe install is behind me and just a few notes or questions for the Suby Illuminati...

First off, man that IC bracket on the left was a PITA to get off. Seems one bolt was torqued to 4 quadrillion ft/#'s. And after breaking a 12mm socket in half (no lie) I used the PB Blaster and broke the socket adapter in half  . Bought another and off it came. So upper heat shielding etc is off now. Do I need to remove the rubber split hose that attaches to the underside of the IC. I would assume yes since I have to take out the turbo (that's tomorrow).

I've seen post/DIY's saying jack the back up and others saying jack up the front... any preferences? Also since my new UP has the EGT tig welded into the bung I'm assuming I can just unhook the one currently on the old pipe and just hook up the new.. (well hoping as well as assuming).

All in all no injuries so far and the weather was nice (too nice to pass up today). Sorry about missing the meet, family was unescapable tonight  ..
Thanks all

Oh wow, I didn't know you were going to attempt it on your own! Props to you! That's NUTS about the sockets!

You shouldn't need to remove the turbo, after removing the downpipe, all of the bolts that you will need to get to should be available to you if you are looking down on the trubo. Make sure to have a O2 socket handy if you need to remove the headers (not sure if you will or not). Personally, I would get a pair of ramps (or borrow some from us!) and put the car up on those. Much safer and will get it much higher off the ground. You definitely want to have the front of the car up!

The EGT that is welded on to the new UP should be fine.

Many thanks... will jack&stand front as suggested.

Excellent news about not removing the turbo, one less thing to loose or break  I'll run by Advance Auto tomorrow AM and see if they've got an O2 socket to loan out.

And the pipe, toolbox and sunshine were too much for my weak will. I'm not sure how to classify my attempt though, I'll wait for the end result  Good thing my truck is back up and running though so I've got the spare transport.

The probe in the UP itself is an EGT probe. You can safely plug that hole on the new UP and just use a (2.2kohm, IIRC) resistor for the engine portion of that sensor harness.

The temp sensor is already attached to the UP I bought the O2 sensor isnt. I'd post picture but I tried and failed miserably (but not with those last two... yeah baby!!)

Cant tell from the underside (cuz I'm a loser) but the O2 does attach to the UP right? or is it in the exhaust manifold?

Also, have some patience removing the O2 sensor from the exhaust manifold - it's difficult to get to (remove your passenger front wheel completely if you haven't already) and just expect it to be difficult. The tool has very little clearance in that location and it is not easy to stuff a big tool like that into such a cramped area.

Sage advice... many thanks..

Good to know it goes in the manifold, I had a frightened moment or two there.
