Is Theo going to single handedly KILL OpenSSH and OpenBSD?

Post by complacent »

First off, I have MAD [ali g]respekt[/ali g] for OpenSSH and OpenBSD. They have been pioneers for some time regarding secure internet communications. Great stuffs. Damn near everyone has used some implimentation of OpenSSH at some point (if you say no and you've touched a Cisco anything - you're a liar).

Background info found here

So I've been reading in the last couple days about how the two projects are having money troubles again... This is a yearly event, nothing new. So I always either donate or buy a shirt or CD or something... But goddammit if Theo doesn't just seem hell bent on pissing everyone off in the process. Little posts like this are a great example. Then in interviews like this he'll go on about people sticking to their open-source guns and the load on their FTP servers are growing, but nobody is helping to cover the tab.

And then there are the times he flat out refused good monies *cough*DARPA*cough* and I can't help but think to myself "Self, what the FSCK is this guy doing?!?!?"

/rant

CN: Give money to OpenBSD or OpenSSH, but tell Theo de Raadt to wake up a little bit. It's getting irritating.

i'm an avid openbsd fan... by far my favorite os.

i usually only read the openbsd-* lists occassionally these days, and usually just to see what theo has been saying lately. usually i find his posts very entertaining... sometimes he's come off a bit harsh, sure, but i think a lot of his points/complaints are valid.

the darpa thing you are talking about, is that before or after that canadian article? or is that what you're referring to?

Yea, the Canadian stuffs. The "undisclosed" reasons for DARPA's withdrawal of funds. I just kinda feel like I support the project in spite of him sometimes. If you want to be an evangelist, get a goddamn tv show, or write a book. don't troll around on mailing lists... sheesh.

YOU ARE A CODE NERD. BE A CODE NERD.

ugh...

That is DEF a good read. And in that context, he does quite well. Just be happy with that Theo...
