Sony was trying to do to the X360 what they did to the Dreamcast: use marketing money to smokescreen the fact that Sony doesnt have next-gen hardware available.
it worked against the DC, mostly because at the time Sony wasn't a root kit installing bastard of a company and was basking in the glow of the excellent PS1. this time? not so much.

I really think that the Cell processor is a move in the right direction. The problem will be getting the developers to use it properly. It's already been said that the 360 is easier to develop for, so before Sony puts out the PS3, they REALLY need to get their SDK up to speed.
