Chrysler has confirmed that the Jeep Grand Cherokee will be offered with a diesel in the U.S. The 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee will get a new diesel engine that will be produced in Detroit, but Chrysler hasn't confirmed the official specs. It's likely that the diesel will be the same diesel engine sold in Europe. In Europe the Grand Cherokee diesel is a 3.0L V6 that puts out 237 horsepower and 406 lb-ft. of torque.
In addition to the announcement about the new diesel-powered Grand Cherokee, Chrysler also announced plans to add a third crew and 1,100 new jobs at its Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit. Chrysler is also adding 150 jobs by reopening its Conner Avenue Assembly Plant for production of the the SRT Viper.
"Our future, like the history of our brands, is interwoven with the City of Detroit," said Chrysler Group Chairman and CEO Sergio Marchionne. "Detroit long has been home to renowned innovators and craftsmen. So it is in the Motor City, home of our industrial heritage and a resilient people, that we are entrusting the manufacture not only of the ultimate American sports car, the SRT Viper, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee - the most awarded SUV ever - but also a diesel version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee for North American markets.
"We believe that investing in Detroit is not only the right thing to do, but it is a smart thing to do as we work to write the next chapter in our shared history," Marchionne said.
I have to say, I wouldn't buy it for a daily driver, but I bet it would make a nice tow vehicle (If I could afford it!)

Good choice putting $4,000 rims on your 1990 Honda Civic. That's like Betty White going out and getting her tits done.
Let's hope it's not the same motor for the US. The 3.0L is a Fiat motor and has bad lag. It's use in the J8, the export only military version of the Wrangler

It has a Cummins 3.3 QSB, electronic Diesel, 5 speed. 210 Ft/lbs of torque at idle, close to 390 ft/lbs max torque. I got 30 MPG on my first tank of gas

No, AEV (and others) are swapping it in. AEV is a Tier 1 supplier to Chrysler though.....this could lead to interesting things down the road should people not get the option in the Wrangler. Their swap kits are OEM level integration because they work closely with Chrysler.

A bit of a hijack but... If one of y'all would like a nice Discovery or similar, I could source one over here. So long as it's 25 years old I can bring it back with no emissions problems, I don't have to pay the VAT, and I get one vehicle shipped back for free.
Let me drive it for a year and you've got a deal.
how much scrilla we talking? I'd really like a D110, not a Disco.

you're playing with my <3 gabe. it literally pains me to see this and not be able to act on it. the idea of building up an old disco or something for use in COLO-FRICKING-RADO is painful to try and ignore.

Send me the specs and I'll keep an eye out. Or better yet, tell my friend Bud the specs and he'll watch the internet like a hawk. Of course I may not be back in the states till spring 2016...
